About the adventure
Step into your own supernatural TV series—where you’re the one hunting the monster. In this 3-session mini-campaign, you’ll play a group of investigators, outsiders, or unlikely heroes drawn into a mystery that shouldn’t exist. Strange events are unfolding, people are in danger, and something is lurking beneath the surface. It’s up to you to figure out what’s really going on—and stop it. Inspired by shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Supernatural, and The X-Files, this game focuses on investigation, character dynamics, and high-stakes moments where your choices shape how the story unfolds. This game is perfect if you want: -A complete story told across a few sessions -Strong roleplay and character-driven moments -A modern or urban fantasy setting -A system that’s easy to learn as you play How it works (3-session structure): Episode 1 — The Pilot: We create characters together and dive straight into the mystery. You’ll learn the system naturally as we play. Episode 2 — The Investigation: Clues deepen, tensions rise, and the truth becomes more dangerous the closer you get. Episode 3 — The Finale: Everything comes to a head in a final confrontation with the monster—and the consequences of your choices. What to expect at the table: -Beginner-friendly guidance (no experience needed) -Rules-light system focused on story and momentum -A balance of investigation, roleplay, and action -A welcoming, inclusive table (queer & ally friendly) This is a guided experience—you don’t need to learn the system ahead of time. If you’ve ever wanted to play in something that feels like a supernatural show where your character actually matters, this is a great place to start. 📅 Commitment: This is a 3-session mini-campaign. Players are encouraged to attend all sessions to experience the full story arc.

Creating your character
Character creation happens together as part of our first session, where we’ll build the cast of our supernatural mystery as a team. You don’t need to know the rules ahead of time or come with a fully finished character. I’ll guide everyone through the process step-by-step, including playbooks, abilities, equipment, team dynamics, and how the system works during play. In Monster of the Week, characters are built using playbooks rather than traditional fantasy classes. Each playbook represents a different archetype from supernatural fiction—the Chosen, the Expert, the Flake, the Monstrous, and more. Every hunter brings unique strengths, relationships, and story hooks into the mystery. Monster of the Week is highly collaborative, and part of the fun is creating a team that feels connected and capable together. During character creation, we’ll establish group dynamics, shared history, and the kinds of stories we want to explore as a table. What to expect: -Guided, beginner-friendly character creation -Help choosing a playbook that fits your style -Collaborative team-building and narrative hooks -Rules explanation woven naturally into play For simplicity and ease of learning, we’ll be using playbooks and materials from the core rulebook only. You’re welcome to arrive with character ideas or inspiration, but no preparation is required. We’ll also cover safety tools, tone, and table expectations before the mystery begins so everyone feels comfortable and ready to play. By the end of the session, you’ll have a fully realized hunter with: -clear motivations -connections to the group -unique abilities -plenty of reasons to dive headfirst into danger.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
To help everyone have a smooth and immersive experience, players should complete a few simple setup steps before our first session. 💬 Discord We’ll use Discord for voice chat, group communication, and sharing game materials. Please make sure your Discord account is set up and that you’re comfortable joining voice channels before game time. Any character sheets, playbooks, safety tools, and session resources will be shared through Discord ahead of the game. 🎙️ Audio Setup A working microphone is required for play. Please take a few minutes before the session to: -test your microphone -check your audio levels -minimize background noise where possible Clear audio helps keep the game flowing smoothly and makes it easier for everyone to stay immersed in the story. Push-to-talk is appreciated in louder environments, but not required. 📹 Optional Video Video is welcome, but never mandatory. Some groups enjoy seeing each other during roleplay-heavy scenes, while others prefer voice-only play. Choose whatever makes you most comfortable. 🌙 Comfortable Play Space Monster of the Week works best when everyone can focus on the mystery and atmosphere together. Try to join from a reasonably quiet, distraction-free space where: -you can hear the group clearly -the group can hear you -you’re able to stay engaged with the story Get cozy! Bring a drink, snacks, a notebook if you like taking notes, and anything else that helps you settle into the experience. Please aim to arrive on time and ready to begin. Because these sessions are story-focused and collaborative, timely starts help everyone get the most out of our playtime together. This game is inspired by supernatural mystery and horror media like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Supernatural, and The X-Files. Expect: -investigation -tension -strange phenomena -character drama -moments of danger balanced with humor and teamwork
What Eryn brings to the table
As your Keeper, I focus on creating supernatural stories that feel immersive, character-driven, and emotionally memorable. My games blend mystery, tension, humor, and horror into collaborative stories where every hunter has a chance to matter. I’ve been running tabletop RPGs for over 15 years, and I love helping players settle naturally into roleplay, investigation, and cinematic storytelling—whether you’re completely new to the hobby or a longtime player looking for a more narrative experience. At my table, you can expect: -Beginner-friendly guidance woven naturally into play -Strong character spotlight moments and evolving relationships -Atmospheric storytelling inspired by supernatural TV and horror fiction -A balance of roleplay, investigation, action, and suspense -A welcoming, inclusive environment where players can relax and collaborate Monster of the Week thrives on momentum and creativity, so I aim to keep sessions flowing smoothly while still giving players room to experiment, investigate strange leads, and make dramatic choices. I enjoy rewarding clever thinking, emotional roleplay, and collaborative storytelling. The rules help support the tension and pacing of the mystery, but the heart of the game is always the characters and the choices they make under pressure. My GM style includes: -Cinematic descriptions and vivid scene-setting -Collaborative worldbuilding and character integration -Flexible “Rule of Cool” moments grounded in the fiction -Structured mysteries that respond dynamically to player choices -Clear guidance for newer players without overwhelming mechanics Depending on the tone of the mystery, I may also use: -ambient playlists -atmospheric soundscapes -visual references and handouts -dramatic reveals and cliffhangers Most importantly, I work hard to create a table where players feel comfortable contributing, taking risks, and getting invested in the story together. Expect strange encounters, difficult choices, supernatural danger, and the kind of messy character moments that make monster stories unforgettable.

How Eryn creates a safe table
Player safety and comfort are foundational at my table. Great horror and emotional storytelling only work when everyone feels supported, respected, and able to engage confidently with the game. Before we begin the mystery, we’ll go over safety tools, table expectations, tone, and boundaries together. I use a combination of: Lines & Veils -X-Card / pause tools -Open Door policy -regular check-ins -post-session debriefs and reflections Players are always welcome to communicate boundaries, concerns, or accessibility needs—before, during, or after sessions. Safety tools can be used for both in-game content and out-of-game table dynamics, and no one will ever be pressured to explain or justify their discomfort. This is a collaborative storytelling space, not a “push through it” environment. Horror should feel thrilling, tense, and emotionally engaging—not genuinely distressing. We’ll also begin sessions with a brief check-in to help gauge the group’s energy and comfort levels. Sometimes players are tired, stressed, overwhelmed, or simply not in the mood for certain themes on a particular day, and that’s completely okay. Boundaries and comfort needs can change over time, and our safety tools are always flexible and ongoing. Certain boundaries are permanent fixtures at my table: -No sexual assault or sexual violence -Fade-to-black for consensual sexual content -No harassment, discrimination, or bullying between players Additional Lines & Veils will be established collaboratively as a group before the mystery begins. Sessions also include a mid-game break for: -stretching -food or water -bio breaks -emotional reset or simply stepping away for a few minutes My goal is to create a table where players feel comfortable taking creative risks, engaging deeply with the narrative, and exploring spooky supernatural stories without sacrificing personal comfort or trust. You can expect a warm, respectful, queer-friendly environment where communication is encouraged, boundaries are honored, and everyone has space to participate safely and collaboratively.
