About the adventure

For centuries the lands between Taldor in the south and Rostland and Numeria in the north have remained untamed. Known as the River Kingdoms, this region has been home to a shifting patchwork of kingdoms, states, and principalities, always rising, always falling. The only constant here is the flow of the mighty Sellen River and its many tributaries, and the belief of the region's inhabitants in the loose creed of the River Freedoms. The northmost of these territories have long been the wildest amongst them. Known as the Stolen Lands, this wilderness has long been home to roving hordes of monsters, bands of rapacious river pirates, and the holds of bandit lords and petty warlords, making them dangerous and chaotic even by the standards of the River Kingdoms. They have defied every attempt to tame them over the centuries - though this has not stopped many from making the attempt - and over the years the Stolen Lands has been host to nearly a hundred efforts to establish a permanent and stable state. They have tried and they have failed, but hope springs eternal - the lessons of the past are oft forgot, and there are always those willing to make their mark on history and try again. The newly united kingdom of Brevoy, itself a fusion of the old northern states of Rostland and Issa, is willing to sponsor such an effort. Its reasons for this are varied, chief among them a need for stability along its porous southern border where Bandits, raiders, smugglers, and those loyal to the old regimes have long operated. With this in mind, Brevoy has called for a gathering of mercenaries, wayward nobles, and other adventurers in the city of Restov. To those who heed its call and meet its muster, it will sponsor their efforts to settle a part of the Stolen Lands, in the hopes that they can raise a River Kingdom of their own, tame the region, and serve as important allies to the Brevic crown into the future. People of the River Kingdoms, now is the time to seize your destiny. Venture forth into the Stolen Lands with your companions and make them your own. Will you found a kingdom that stands the test of time, or fall into ruin as so many before you? ------ Pathfinder: Kingmaker is a classic 1st Edition adventure path. In this adventure we will explore and tame the Stolen Lands, delve into ancient dungeons, fight off threats to our nascent kingdom, participate in epic battles against rival kingdoms and factions, and manage the affairs of a kingdom of our own. My version of the campaign will differ somewhat from the classic TTRPG and CRPG versions while adhering to the general storyline established in the adventure path. I will collaborate with the party to establish a number of factors for the campaign including the tone, overall difficulty, and use of mass combat and kingdom building rules prior to our first session.

About me

I got a copy of the original D&D Rules Cyclopedia for my 12th birthday and I've been hooked ever since. In the more than 30 years between now and then I've run and played in hundreds of games across dozens of systems, and loved them all. At heart I am a storyteller and believe than any good story should be told together. I am very excited to finally bring my decades of experience to the virtual table top environment. Having played in multiple campaigns over the past few years I've been very excited to see how technology has had such a huge and positive impact on the world of gaming. In addition to my TTRPG chops I also bring years of professional technology experience to the table and aim to create a fully immersive environment for everyone to enjoy.

Character creation

Creating your character

You can create your character prior to the start of the campaign if you choose to do - I will add you to the Foundry server and create a character sheet for you when you sign up. We will be working through character creation as a group during Session 0 as well as via Discord prior to the start of the campaign. I am available for consultation at any time via Discord to help you with any character or setting questions whatsoever, and will happily make time to meet with you prior to session 0 to help you build your character directly. You can use the 25 point buy method for your character's stats. Here's a handy tool to help with this: https://pittsburghpfs.com/resources/point-buy-calculator/ Characters must start with at least 1 trait, chosen from among the campaign traits in the AP player's guide (see Preparation below). You may also begin play with another trait of your choice. You may select additional traits as you like, but must take a drawback for every additional trait you select after the second. https://www.d20pfsrd.com/traits/ https://www.d20pfsrd.com/traits/drawbacks/ I make use of the optional "Antihero" rule, meaning all level 1 characters receive an additional feat. https://aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?ID=449 I also make use of the background skills option in the unchained skills ruleset, meaning characters receive 2 skill points each level to devote specifically to background skills. Your character sheet in Foundry will be configured to accommodate this rule. https://aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?ID=1732 Finally, I make use of the Elephant in the Room framework in order to allow for streamlined character customization; specifically to avoid the dreaded "feat tax" https://michaeliantorno.com/feat-taxes-in-pathfinder/ In general, any Paizo character options from the Pathfinder System Resource Document are valid. Please check with me before using any content from 3rd party publishers, or an official racial path outside of the core races. In the interest of party balance, the GM has final say on the use of any and all character options. https://www.d20pfsrd.com/

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Make sure you have a Discord and a Foundry account prior to Session 0. Friendly reminder that these are all free to use software, so don't believe anyone who tries to charge you for them. ----- The player's guide specific to this campaign contains specific options for character creations including character backgrounds and custom traits. It is highly recommended that all players review the guide prior to Session 0. Official Campaign Player's Guide: https://downloads.paizo.com/KingmakerOGL_PlayersGuide.pdf

What Nicky Perfect brings to the table

I'll set up a dedicated Discord server for the campaign as soon as two players join, and will provide an invite to the Foundry server and a number of other materials there. Please reach out to me in the server or directly on Discord (nicky_perfect) if you have any other questions prior to Session 0.

Homebrew rules

House rules that the group decides on or special rules specific to the campaign will be discussed in Session 0 and posted to the Discord prior to Session 1. Note against specifically that any 3rd party Pathfinder content requires GM permission to use.

Safety

How Nicky Perfect creates a safe table

A document including agreed upon lines and veils along with a safety checklist will be sent to all players after Session 0, and before Session 1. Discussion of safety features will be a main focus of session 0. I will provide players with digital safety cards to use in the VTT environment. We will take a scheduled 10 minute break at the halfway mark of each session. Additional breaks can be provided if required and/or agreed upon as part of our campaign planning. I will also be checking in regularly with players outside of sessions via Discord for Stars and Wishes discussions, both individually and as a group.
