About the adventure

A portent of doom has been given for a secluded valley. The gods have given a vision of the future and refuse to do anything to stop the destruction. A mysterious benefactor wishes for a party who can discover what this portent means and why the gods have abandoned the valley. Your characters have found flyers asking for adventurers who can explore the valley and uncover its secrets. This game is a slightly edited version of the D&D 5e campaign Princes of the Apocalypse, which exists in a fantasy world of good versus evil. This campaign is a contained sandbox so it does not have a linear story and has players find and explore leads to further the story. This campaign will explore religious cults, mysterious disappearances, grand dungeons, and the consequences of one's actions. This game is perfect for players who want to get immersed in the world and discover the answers to what is happening in the valley. And if combat is more your thing, no problem, we have all kinds of beefy foes to face off against.

About me

Hey I am Tony. I got started with ttrpgs with D&D 5e. I would buy the books before I had a group to play with, and even started my own homebrew world. I have since expanded my horizons to many other systems and love exploring new ones. I still have the habit of homebrewing worlds and stories for those worlds that I love sharing with others. My first major completed campaign started in 2023 and ended at the beginning of 2026. I have mostly run D&D 5e, but have dabbled in some Powered by the Apocalypse games like Monster of the Week. I also am a big fan of JelloApocalypse's Anime Campaign system, which I have run various homebrewed versions of. Roll20 is my preferred virtual tabletop, but I also like to do theater of the mind when there is no need for a tabletop. I use Discord for voice/text chat.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be made with the 2014 Dungeons and Dragons 5e rules set. Characters can be made with options from the 2014 Players Handbook, Sword Coast Adventurers Guide, Xanathars Guide to Everything, Tasha's Cauldron of Everything and Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse. Starting level is 1, stats are made using the point buy method, hit point increase is fixed upon level up (take average instead of rolling). I will say that due to the story divine casters would be so nerfed as to not be worth playing so Clerics, Paladins, Druids, and Rangers are not allowed. Characters will be finalized in the first session if you want to have an idea for a character before then go for it, but be aware things may change in the session. Character sheets will be hosted on roll20 or dndbeyond. Leveling will be milestone/story based. Starting items can be the given equipment or the variant gold option, any gold can be spent on non-magical equipment.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will use Discord for voice chat and text discussion about the game. We will use Roll20 as the virtual tabletop for maps, rolls and character sheet hosting. Accounts for these two are required. Optionally you may want to use dndbeyond for your character sheet and you can, but if you want to roll you either have to do it in roll20 manually or with the beyond20 extension for Chrome, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge. Dndbeyond does require an account. Beyond20 requires being downloaded to work. For both dndbeyond and roll20 I have the books listed for character creation and am able to share them with the group.

What Tony B brings to the table

I like to try and do voices for NPCs to add a bit of fun. I do try to stick to rules but if you can convince me to use a skill or ability in an unconventional way I will allow it. What I really like to do is shape the world around the players, taking details and integrating them into the story. I also like to personalize magic items for characters.

Homebrew rules

Besides the class restrictions, I play things pretty rules as written.

Safety

How Tony B creates a safe table

I have a Google form I will send out for players to put anything they'd like excluded and set up a document for these things so we keep track of them. During session 0 we will go over the document and make sure everyone who's playing agrees to follow the document. We will also cover the in game safety system. During the game players will have access to X, N, O, and ♡ cards to signal if they feel something is being too much. After the game I will check in with players for feedback about what they liked or what they would like changed going forward.
