About the adventure
⚔️ You fought the wolves, the bandits, the undead. 🌔 Barovia could not break you, Death couldn't catch you. 🦇 But the Devil will not sleep and the Mists won't part. 👑 So you must take the Land and make it heed Your beck and call. 🐦⬛ But Barovia is not a land easily tamed. And this Beast perhaps is in us all. What Death Couldn't Conquer is an original expansion to the Curse of Strahd adventure module for heroes who seek a final conclusion to Barovia's mysteries and the fate of her Dark Lord, Strahd von Zarovich. This high-level adventure introduces influential factions vying for control over the valley, each with their areas of dominance, unique agendas, and patron Dark Powers. The starting location, relations with these factions and powers, and available resources of the party will depend on their shared background, but ultimately their goal will be one of redemption in the Light, or domination under new management. What would you do with absolute power? 💎

Meet the Game Master
About me
Hello there! My name is Vincent, and the two little gargoyles behind me are Bobby and Smaug, my warlock familiars. I started playing Dungeons & Dragons in university with my featherless friends and it quickly became our favorite hobby, so much so that I've been running official and homebrew campaigns for us ever since. And because I'm always eager to play and meet new characters and experience new stories, I would be thrilled to GM for You, intrepid adventurer!🧝🏽🏹 I even wrote my master's thesis about the positive impact TTRPGs have on social and creative skills as a potential form of group therapy. A session a week is good for the brain! 🧠🧙

Creating your character
You can use any officially published book for character options, but homebrew content must be approved by me. Characters are created using the Point Buy system for their initial ability scores (https://chicken-dinner.com/5e/5e-point-buy.html). If you're new to DnD, I'm happy to help with all the jargon and creating your first character. 👀 You can also keep your character sheet on any platform or even on paper. Same goes for rolling, physical dice are welcome, I won't stand between you and your clickity-clacks.
This adventure is from level 15 to level 20, and sessions are every Monday, with session 0 planned for October 5th. If you decide to join, every effort will be made to help you with onboarding, including: - Introductions with the party via a short session 0 in our first game together - Help with character creation, and connecting them to the setting - Readily answering all your questions
What to expect
Preparing for the session
🎤 A decent microphone & Internet connection 🎧 A Discord account (free to register) 📝 Create your Character Sheet - let me know if you need any help 🎓 Beginners are welcome, I will help you learn how to play 💻 Cameras are optional
What Vincent brings to the table
🧭 Maps, handouts & unique magic items 🧙🏽♂️ A player- and character-oriented approach 🦇 A vast expansion of Curse of Strahd and character progression ⚜️ Battle maps and a campaign map to explore on Foundry VTT 🎧 Our very own Discord server for voice chat 📜 A Quest Log to assist the note-takers of the party 🌒 Horrors of the Gothic variety And instead of a fake Eastern European accent, you get the real deal 🇭🇺
Homebrew rules
I use a few pages worth of popular variant rules for 5e, the character limit doesn't allow for listing them, but once you join you'll have access to them. Some examples are: - Bulk capacity replacing the usual carrying capacity, borrowed from PF2e. - Variant exhaustion rules - it is a cumulative -1 penalty per level of exhaustion, up to level 11 (where madness or death occurs). - System shock and lingering injuries starting at level 4 - it only applies at truly devastating blows, and there is a chance to resist them. - Bonus action potion drinking. - Light flanking benefits. - Plunging attacks. - Free feat at every ASI level. - Shorter short rests and only partial long rests outside of safe havens. - Many downtime activities, such as Harvesting, Crafting, Cooking, and Training. - Up to 3 Inspiration Points and Mighty Deeds.

How Vincent creates a safe table
This adventure deals with a variety of weighty topics and, after all, is a horror setting, featuring manipulative and abusive antagonists. But humor frequently goes hand-in-hand with horror, and our goal, ultimately, is to have fun playing. We will go over safety tools, consent, and how the party will get together in Session 0, and at the end of each session we can discuss what went well and what should be improved. I will also send out a consent form in which you can let me know what content you don't wish to see in our games. This is a newbie-friendly game, I will help with the mechanical and rulebook-sides of the game, you just need to tell me what your character would like to do. 🎲
