About the adventure

For generations, the Rootwilds have remained untouched by the outside world. Protected by thorned barriers and mysterious magics believed by scholars to be divine, no outsider has ever entered these lands... except one human from Ethros.... Born from the magic of the great Hearthroot Trees, the Critterfolk have lived peaceful lives among the forest. Frogs, badgers, deer, squirrels, weasels, raccoons, and other creatures awakened by the forest’s magic have built small communities of burrows and homes beneath the canopy of roots. They have no kingdoms, armies, or wall, only the bonds of family, friendship, and harmony. The Great Deer, Taliesin, has long walked among the Critterfolk as their guardian and guide, granting wisdom to their people. The Circle of Lanterns gathers beneath the Hearthroot Trees, where each species sends an ambassador to honor Taliesin and protect the traditions of the Rootwilds. But the peace of the forest is fading. Since that lone Human entered...The Hearthroot Trees are losing their light. The Great Deer has been more absent and has now vanished. A strange sickness spreads from beneath the wilds, and for the first time, the Critterfolk must look beyond their home. You are one of the chosen ambassadors sent to uncover the truth. Forming a Fellowship, you will journey the Rootwilds and maybe beyond into a dangerous world your people have never known. Discover the source of the sickness, uncover the secrets beneath the forest, and find a way to save the home you have always loved. The Rootwilds is a roleplay-focused adventure. Centered on community, homes, and neutral/good alignment characters.

About me

Just like characters, my life keeps developing too. I love story collaboration and huge immersive worlds where everyone can shape their destiny.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will begin before session 0. Using the player's bible and getting to know the lore will be a huge asset. Starting level 3: Point system is Standard Array. Once characters are made, the player may provide a character image, though the cost of the game includes artwork for your character to be created.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We run our games from The Forge, through Foundry VTT. You will need Discord. A Clear working mic. All players use DnDbeyond character sheets(a link is provided to homebrew races/species) DnDBeyond Extension is also required. All needed things are free at no cost to the player.

What Dm/Gm Travis brings to the table

1. Though I lean into the rule of cool, and when story moments allow, there is a somewhat balanced approach to both rules as written and the rule of cool. 2. Music is provided every session, custom battlemaps made by me or paid from patrons. 3. I do push players to be involved with one another as all games are ultimately community-driven, as all players want to work together to create the story. 4. My goal is to help you feel immersed, so much so, that parties are able to dive right back in weekly, with me only needing to guide at moments while parties shape their own stories through role-play. 5. I do not allow players to pvp, unless the group agrees to it. 6. Though parties may have different alignments, ultimately, if the characters aren't contributing to one another, I will ask to rework the character so that it is benefiting everyone. (Team focused) Is the goal.

Homebrew rules

From time to time, players can ask to do something if given a reason such as "Im in the shadows, or high ground. Can i do this? I have also created a beta of "careers" in which players manually track a system where they can choose to be more. I don't always allow successes simply because someone got a Nat 20. (Example mysterious tablet from 2k years ago, suddenly deciphered by a cook background character) as there is some realism built into the game. This is where I focus on the "career" backstories.

Safety

How Dm/Gm Travis creates a safe table

Session 0 we talk about topics that are uncomfortable for players and do our best to avoid them altogether. Players can then decide to reach out directly to me in the moment, decide on X, N, O's, etc.
