About Dm/Gm Travis

I'm a storyteller by heart and love collaboration. I enjoy video and photography as well and an aging gamer XD. I am married to a beautiful wife and have two dogs that are basically like our kids. Indy and Rogue. I enjoy creative endeavors and though not everything is my cup of tea, I have a respect for anyone bold or passionate enough to chase after their dreams or goals, regardless of it being art, business, medical etc.

I became a GM because

I became a GM because of two reason really. The first was to build worlds and create stories I wanted to tell. Secondly because I want those stories to expand into something unique and different, if possible as theres so much thats out there!

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Empathetic, creative, strategic.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Doing videography, writing books, or playing video games.

How Dm/Gm Travis runs games

My Gm style is often referred to as a slow cinematic burn. (Games start slow, basic premise that eventually ties together for climactic arcs) Players are often given stressful/distrust/identity roles early on. But by the end I always intend to ahve your character...should tehy preserve and survive....become a major player in the world to come and or leave a lasting for future players to discover or build upon. (Example a baker became king, a student became an ambassador for a queen, a fisherman became a captain of a navy etc.) I do not possess creative voice acting skills(character voices), but do a decent job of capturing the tone and direction. Most of my campaigns are "balanced," but I do tend to lean more towards struggle and darker themes. There is no black and white... it's always about perspective. I run basic dnd 5e, and we mix 2014 & 2024 rules. We have been creating homebrew species and rules for the world, magic system, etc., and it's always changing or being updated, so it's a constantly growing, evolving world. I tend to lean more into the rule of cool, so rules and spells can be adjusted by me to fit narratively and wont' always work as written as trying to make the spells and rules of DND adapt to Tetara not Tetara adapt to dnd.

I deal with rules issues by...

Conversing and talking with players in the moment as it needs to fit narratively and "Realistically" within the Tetara rules, not DND rules. I would say this has led to a resolution 7/10 times.

Rules are...

Rule of Cool. Basic 5e of 2014 and 2024. Spells and the magic system is homebrewed, so they do not always work as written, as the system is changed to match Tetara, not Tetara matching the system.

Dm/Gm Travis's ideal table

My tables are built for community-driven players. People who enjoy collaboration. Players who don’t just look for their own spotlight, but actively engage with others—helping build moments, stories, and a shared experience that feels bigger than any one character. When it comes to politics, beliefs, or identity—everyone has them. And that’s respected. But this isn’t the place for it. This is a game. We don’t bring politics into the table, and we don’t push agendas. If you feel the need to force it on everyone, then you aren't the right fit. What matters here is the experience we’re creating together. Players in this community may not always agree outside the game—but they’re mature enough to separate that from why they’re here. To support that, every player goes through a survey before joining. That helps me build parties that are aligned in playstyle, expectations, and overall tone—so no one walks in feeling out of place or at odds with the group and as comfortable as possible with forming parties. At the end of the day, it’s simple: Play how you want. Respect how others play. Don’t force your beliefs or playstyle onto the table. If that works for you—you’ll fit right in.

Featured Prompts

I think it's a red flag when players...

Jumps in and cuts others off instead of letting moments play out Metagames—acting on information their character wouldn’t know Constantly tries to take the spotlight or insert themselves into every scene Stays self-focused instead of engaging with the group Doesn’t give others space to speak, act

I think metagaming...

I think metagaming is an absolute game killer. Players shouldn’t be acting on information their character wouldn’t know, or “reading” other players and using that knowledge in-game when their character has no reason to. It breaks immersion. It undermines the story.

I think min/maxing...

I think heavy min/maxing tends to hurt the overall experience. Instead of feeling authentic to the character or the world, it can come off more like a technical glass cannon—built to win numbers, not to live in the story. It is allowed. But it’s discouraged.
