About the adventure
Raventree Estate was once the proud seat of a powerful family but now stands ruined with its inhabitants scattered and lost. Wade through generations of grief, ambition, and betrayal as you meet NPCs each with their own history, resentments, and loyalties. The alliances you form, secrets you uncover, and compromises you make shape the fate of Raventree and everyone in it. My games prioritize player agency, clear communication, and patient support. I learn the rules and the adventures well so I can break them when necessary, following "Rule of Cool". My philosophy is that rules of D&D change for every table. Some call that homebrew but I think that's just how the game was meant to be played. NPCs respond to what you do, creative ideas and plans are welcome (even the crazy ones), and the rules support the fiction rather than the fiction being restrained by numbers. That said, consequences exist and "you're certainly welcome to try," may very well be followed by, "please make me a death saving throw." At my table players can expect: - A complete campaign, beginning, middle, and end. - Choices, relationships, and consequences that matter - Time for investigation, conversation, and a little bit of recreation - Tactical combat with varying environments - You set the pace for the campaign as a whole, but I set the pace for the session to ensure every week is memorable and rewarding - A fun & safe table for LGBTQIA+, neurodivergence, and more This campaign is great for people who think their character belongs in Adams Family, Darkest Dungeon, or The Dresden Files and spends just as much time if not more considering their motivations and backstory as they do their class and combat options.

About me
Hi, I’m Ryan (he/him), the GM behind Tafelavontuur. I specialize in teaching Dungeons & Dragons to new players. My goal is simple: help people feel comfortable, confident, and excited to play. At my table players learn the game naturally as situations arise. Questions are encouraged, and no one is expected to memorize rules ahead of time. The focus stays on creativity, teamwork, and enjoying the adventure. My games are player-driven and flexible. I enjoy rewarding clever ideas, creative problem solving, and character moments that make the world feel alive. Safety and inclusion are also important to me. I use clear safety tools, establish expectations early, and check in with players when needed so the table stays respectful and welcoming. Whether you’re brand new to tabletop RPGs or simply looking for a relaxed and supportive GM, you can expect a game that is welcoming, well-paced, and focused on shared enjoyment. If you’re curious about D&D but a little nervous to try it, you’re exactly the kind of player I love running games for.

Creating your character
We'll come together for a Session 0 to discuss the setting and make a wonderfully eccentric cast of characters to start our story. 3rd party content is considered on a case-by-case basis.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We play online using two simple tools. 🎙 Discord is used for voice chat during the session. You’ll need a microphone and a free Discord account. Discord can run directly in your browser or through the optional app. 🗺 Foundry VTT is used for maps, character sheets, and dice rolling. The game is hosted through Sqyre, so you can join directly from your browser without installing anything. I'm always available to help make sure everything works so you can join the game without technical stress.
What Ryan - Tafelavontuur brings to the table
I specialize in helping new players learn Dungeons & Dragons in a relaxed, supportive environment so beginners are always welcome. Rules are explained in plain language as they come up, so no one feels overwhelmed or left behind. Questions are always welcome, and mistakes are treated as part of learning. My tables focus on collaboration, curiosity, and creativity. Players are encouraged to experiment, try bold ideas, and discover or pursue what makes the game fun for them.
Homebrew rules
If you consider it a "house rule", I prioritize consistency and player creativity and expression over rules as written. I stay to the letter most of the time, but lean into Rule of Cool. Combat is run efficiently to keep turns moving while allow for tactical play. I may adjudicate on the spot to avoid stalling or delays when possible.

How Ryan - Tafelavontuur creates a safe table
This table is designed to be welcoming, respectful, and comfortable for everyone. Players come from different backgrounds, identities, and levels of experience. Everyone deserves to feel safe participating in the game. To support that, I use clear safety practices. This gives us a chance to talk about expectations, comfort levels, and any accessibility needs. We establish table guidelines and introduce safety tools such as Lines & Veils, the X-Card, and Open Door policies. When expectations are clear and everyone feels respected, it becomes much easier to relax and enjoy the story together.
