About the adventure

CAMPAIGN PREMISE // WHAT TO EXPECT THE CHORUS ANOMALY is a horror yet heroic story, in which you take the role of a known and competent figure, appointed as crisis managers and champions, thrown at the forefront of what could well be a world-changing – or shattering – event. You will be equipped and accompanied by a contingent of key personnel, supplies, and strategic equipment, all to battle monsters and anomalies that have been agitated into existence by the singing mountain. This adventure will place your hero in an isolated and blockaded region, where requesting outside help is an uphill battle, and the population trapped within looks up to you for salvation. The walls are crumbling, its protectors faltering, their supply lines at the brink of total collapse. You must push the battle lines away from the city, and reclaim territory and resources that have been contaminated by the song. All your past journeys and accomplishments have led you here, to stand alongside some of the finest sapients to heed the call as well. As the heavens themselves bleed their wrathful rain down upon you, will you remain steadfast? The adventure is module is written by Mel and Rats! TONE // MOOD Somber, sober, tense, thrilling TOUCHSTONES // INSPIRATIONS Darkest Dungeon 2, Arknights: Endfield, The Last Spell THEMES // MOTIFS Indomitable sapient spirit VS otherworldly horrors, industrialized magic and arcane technologies, cooperation in the face of adversity. MISSION BRIEFING // STORY BLURB: "Greetings, I am Commissioner Edward Carver. I hope this transmission finds you in good health and arms. The Summit had your name on their shortlist of people they can count on in times of crisis. We seem to have a big one this time, but only a small team can be deployed for now. We’re hoping that will include you. We have lost all contact with Northpoint and its surrounding region. Its population of twenty thousand just up and disappeared from our comms and radars. Our scout ships have immediately attempted approach, but a dome of space-distorting fog barred their entry. Northpoint isn’t licensed to wield any systems or artefacts that could generate something that powerful, so that leaves us with only one distinct conclusion: the Anathema is involved somehow. It’ll take a good number of mages and days to transport even a handful of people through the barrier, so we’ll be sending you in first. Establish contact with local leadership, help them out how you can. Then find a way to establish a communication foothold within, so you may requisition further support from the outside. Attached below is the coordinates for the staging grounds, not far south of Northpoint. Talk more there if you’re heeding the call. Carver, over and out."

About me

Hi, I'm Mel! By day I am a designer, artist, and dicemaker, and now, by night, a Game Master for hire. I've been GMing home games since late 2020, and since then I've grown to love worldbuilding projects that I can share with friends as immersive TTRPGs. TTRPGs quickly became my social lifeline at the height of the pandemic. I'd been the first to invite my friends to take the plunge (many of us started with minimal knowledge or following of the media,) so the GM seat was where I sat. Ever since then, the game nights became a beacon of respite, the checkpoint for me to strive for every week. It got me through busy college days, and busier days as a full-time product designer. Since I started as a GM and not a player, I guess that qualified me as a generation 0 GM. And lucky that I am to have the bragging rights for that, because ever since then our then-small group grew into a small community because they, in turn, wanted to become GMs too! And I had first dibs on their seats!! I was eating well!!! I feel like TTRPGs and GMing is one of those hobbies that has a relatively low barrier of entry, but by the stars the ceiling felt so high. There's so much that one can learn and improve in their craft. It encouraged me to sign up for games with strangers, even when my community had plenty of games running; I felt compelled to explore beyond my comfort zone -- a feeling that I don't get as much with my other, more formally taught disciplines.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation may be done before the campaign start, and we recommend heartofdaggers.com for your character sheet. The GM will be there to help you situate the character in the world. We recommend having more than one alternative character ideas for consideration. For starters, here are some questions that may help you paint a picture of your character. - You are chosen for a dangerous mission spearheading into the epicenter of the Chorus Anomaly. Why did you answer the call, when few else stepped forward? What are you looking for in a crisis? - What makes you qualified for this pivotal role? - To arrive here, you must've been to places, and committed worthwhile deeds, for the people to specifically ask for your help. What other perilous journeys have you trekked and returned from triumphantly? What fearsome foes have you felled? - For the duration of the mission, what are you leaving behind? - The city of Northpoint is a burgeoning frontier city with a demographic profile leaning towards the young and adventurous. Do you know anyone who lives here?

What Caramel brings to the table

The campaign is GM'd by Mel, and we have a co-author and assistant by name of Rats! Mel's style of GMing flourishes with roleplay, rule of cool, improvisations, and dramatic combat! In the background, we will have Rats to aid construct a more fleshed out world, intrigue, and content for the campaign. We will be both the biggest fans of your characters and stories, and we'll have a hand in creating a more tailored storytelling and roleplay experience for you. We will also utilize custom, handmade art and assets made by us for the maps, NPC tokens, and key arts. After two paid sessions with you, we'll throw in a PC portrait/token for you as well!

Homebrew rules

The use of firearms and other technologies are allowed in this game; we will prioritize flavoring existing core rulebook content, but further homebrewed items are allowed after discussion with the GM.
