About the adventure

You must rescue a woman lost in the corrupted darkness of the Halcyon Domain. She is touched by the gods and her incredibly rare godly powers are a beacon of hope for your settlement (not to mention her healing powers aid in keeping the enduring healthy and alive). She has gone missing and her loss has left a gaping wound in the soul of your already desperate community. You must track the lost one into the Halcyon Domain, survive the horrid monstrosities in the unending night, and bring her back home safe. Age of Umbra: Rescue the Lost One is a short Daggerheart campaign using the Age of Umbra campaign frame from the Daggerheart core book. This is a challenging dark landscape with struggling survivors huddled in communities spread across a dark corrupted wasteland forsaken by the gods who abandoned it. Still, the enduring foster sparks of hope in the bleak of night and try to find light in their communities. The exact location of your group's settlement will be chosen from the map in session 0, where we also build character backstories and connections. This campaign will follow a similar narrative structure as the Age of Umbra mini-series from Critical Role, featuring exploration and challenging combat with a clear direction and goal for the traveling party. You do not have to have watched any of the Age of Umbra shows to play this game, but of course if you have it will give you extra context and help you know what to expect. Play this campaign if you want to: - Explore a dangerous landscape full of monsters and corruption - Kindle a bit of light in a bleak and dark world - Experience fast-paced challenging combat in the Daggerheart system - Engage in meaningful roleplay Your GM is nonbinary and everyone is welcome at this table.

About me

Hi! My name is Tim. I have been playing TTRPGs for about eight years and GMing for about seven of them. The games I have the most experience with are FATE, Kids on Bikes, Daggerheart, numerous Powered by the Apocalypse Systems, some OSR systems, and 5e, but I have also run several other indie systems and am constantly checking out new games. I'm a narrative-focused GM who really enjoys character development and emergent story from gameplay. I do also enjoy combat, but narrative and character development don't turn off when the fight is on! I also love player contributions to the narrative and work with you to incorporate what you want to see for your characters into the storyline. I use a variety of tools including Discord, Owlbear Rodeo, Demiplane, and Kenku.FM when GMing. I also use Theater of the Mind quite a lot, but typically with visual references.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will create characters together during session 0, but preplanning and talking about ideas in our campaign's Discord server is also encouraged for those who enjoy building characters. We will be using Demiplane, an online service similar to DnDBeyond, for building character sheets. I will provide access to book content but it will require a free Demiplane account to play. Players can also use other platforms or pen and paper during games, but I will not be able to share game materials on other digital platforms.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You must create a free account on Demiplane.com to play if you do not already have one. You will be sent a link to the campaign on Demiplane after signing up for the game. We will be using Discord for voice and video-- a link to the server will be sent to you after you sign up. Microphone/Voice Chat is necessary to play. Video chat is available, but not required.

What Tim brings to the table

I will bring a welcoming atmosphere, visual references, maps, and music, experience GMing in Daggerheart and numerous other settings and systems as well as access to the Daggerheart Core Rules on Demiplane via content sharing. (With the potential to share the Hope and Fear Expansion as well.)

Safety

How Tim creates a safe table

There will be a session 0 where we create (or finalize) characters, discuss subjects we want to tackle and do a lines and veils safety check to ensure players are on the same page about which topics are acceptable in play. We will also have a Rewind/Retcon system in place to stop any scenes causing discomfort and remove them from play canon if ever necessary.
