About the adventure
There is a curse that hangs in the scorching hot air of Har'Akir; that curse is called obsession. For untold centuries, the undead pharaoh Ankhtepot has futilely searched the land for his missing treasure, sending out mummies and priests of the gods to be his scouts and enforcers. In this dark fantasy adventure, players will be trapped in the land of Har'Akir and will need to hunt down the pharaoh's treasure to escape. However, wickedness stalks every turn in this swashbuckling adventure, and characters may not get out with their souls untainted by the dark. This adventure is a mix of body horror, rip-roaring fights, and cross-country puzzles; think National Treasure meets The Exorcist. Possession and the threat of others getting possessed play major roles in this campaign. I have spent two years making and playing with a custom possession system that is scary but still lets players have fun and use their characters.

About me
Hello! my name is Ryan Baker (He/Him) I am an author, actor, and illustrator based in Orlando, Florida. I have been playing Dungeons & Dragons 5E/2024 for six years and have been DMing for five years. I have a BA in Creative Writing, a background in theatre, and am currently working on obtaining my Master's Degree in English. I love horror and study horror media, and I always try to create a haunting atmosphere at my tables. Safety and player comfort are paramount at my table (especially in horror games). I love helping new players get started and find their voice as a player :) LGBTQ+ friendly

Creating your character
Players should make level 3 characters using the 2024 rules and standard array for stats. If a subclass has not been updated to 2024, then players can port over subclass features from 2014 as they fit. I can provide guidance on how this can be done either at session 0 or when it comes up. While characters will be far from home, it is still important to have a backstory so you know what you are fighting for. Because this is a horror campaign, we will be using some additional mechanics, including the Fear and Stress rules, so think about what your character is afraid of (e.g., the dark, wolves, or dolls, things that could come up in a game) Players will also need to pick out a Dark Gift (RtHW) for their characters upon arrival in Ravenloft. This is in addition to an origin feat. Any Dark Gift apart from Mist Walker is fine; this is not really a Domain-hopping adventure. Homebrew and 3rd-party content are welcome, but must be approved.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players will need Discord as well as a microphone and, of course, internet access. A webcam is optional but highly appreciated. If players need assistance making a character/coming up with a backstory, then I will be more than willing to guide them on Discord before the start of the game at session 0.
What Ryan Baker brings to the table
I love stories and storytelling; I have a BA in English/Creative Writing and am currently working on my Master's degree in English. I have a heavy background in theatre and recently helped curate and perform in a live TTRPG show at a local theatre. All that is to say, I make a great effort to provide players with as interesting and lively a game as I can. I have expertise in horror; many of my published works are in the genre. Players will see a lot of homage in my games as well as a lot of love for the genre. I greatly enjoy tailoring adventures to characters, giving custom magic items, and incorporating character backstory into the plot.
Homebrew rules
Creatures that are shapechangers are vulnerable to silvered weapons. I have custom possession rules that allow for more player agency and control.

Safety
How Ryan Baker creates a safe table
Safety and comfort are utterly paramount, even in a horror game. While we want player characters to feel dread and terror, the players should still feel that the table is a safe community. I will talk to players one-on-one about content as well as send a safety consent form for players to fill out to let me know what lines and veils they would like enforced.
