About the adventure

We begin in a tavern as our adventure awaits! You might be rescuing a princess from a castle; finding a magical tome in a lost library; or escaping the clutches of a cruel overlord as you are trapped in their dungeon. Please note that your scenario (and any associated materials) will be sent upon booking your seat at the table. I guarantee some great storytelling, fantastic lands, and a whole lot of fun. *********** Perfect for new and seasoned players alike, these one-shot games set in the worlds of Dungeons & Dragons deliver action, adventure, camaraderie, and a whole lot of fun. These games are designed for Level 2-3 player-characters: a solid entry-level for new players who are ready to get into the game, and 'technical' enough for experienced players to go to town with their options and choices. The main aim of the game, though? Storytelling! We're in this together to tell a solid story; building a world; saving the day. Whether it's rescuing a village from marauding orcs or tracking down a magical artefact from the tomb of a dead necromancer, there are always going to be excellent tales to be told! At the table I encourage questions and collaboration. This is not a 'you must know the rules' place where only 'experience' is allowed. Why? Because we all want to start and we all have to start somewhere! I'm here to guide; mentor; encourage; and support as you learn the ins and outs of D&D and table-top role-play in general (because becoming a purple-haired half-dwarf barbarian named Colin for a couple of hours should be a choice anyone can make!).

About me

Hey there! I'm an all-inclusive DM, play enthusiast and group facilitator. I run games that are intended as great stories; over single sessions or multi-month campaigns these tales are told through the eyes of my players. Since TTRPGs are hobby games and meant to be FUN above all else I design everything I run with fun being something everyone can have (I hope) on their terms. For example, I'll make sure that player types are well matched and that everyone knows what kind of content they're getting themselves into. I'd don't limit myself to one system or play style. I love D&D but am just as happy running a deep, dark tale using Doomsong or getting stuck into a narrative and role play-first world with Kids on Bikes. Each format has its merits and shortcomings which I try to bend as far as possible to keep fun-focus first! At the table we're rules-light most of the time; life is too short for number-crunching and "But the book says..." - where the rule of cool will do, the rule of cool *will* do. Players looking for an easy way in to a game or just want to meet similar-minded people, I am the DM for you.

Character creation

Creating your character

Because these adventures are self-contained 'one shot' sessions, bringing a character with you is preferable. However, if you need a character sheet to play with, I have a number of pre-made on hand. If you are creating your characters using D&D Beyond or other resources, please consider the following: 👉 Keep to the 2024 / 5.5e ruleset 👉 Avoid any homebrew content (weapons, classes etc) 👉 You may select up to one uncommon magical item 👉 It is my preference that players avoid any cultural appropriation or obvious 'put on' accents so as to keep the space safe and inclusive for absolutely everyone 👉 Above all have FUN making your character; go wild! If you have questions about character creation before we get together please (please, please!) ask me.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Ideally we will play on my private Discord server, the link of which will be shared with you before we play. If Discord is not an option for every player we will defer to Google Meet. For maps and visual resources I use Owlbear Rodeo as a virtual tabletop (VTT). It's lightweight and very easy to navigate. No account is required on the players' part to access this. When we get together please bring: 👉 Your character sheet 👉 Yourself! Show up as you are 👉 A pen and paper 👉 Dice – either physical or digital 👉 An open mind and a readiness to play

What Tom Jepson brings to the table

In our games we have two very clear remits: tell a kick-ass story and have FUN. If we get to the end of our game session and have achieved both of these I will call it a win (regardless of the outcome for your characters!) I am very flexible in how I run games and ensure that every player is heard, seen, and can play as *they* need to. If you're new to D&D or role-playing games I will make sure you have time and space to get stuck in and ask questions. If you're more experienced there will be plenty of time to flex what you know and get stuck in. Combat is often light-weight depending on the game. Sometimes there is no combat at all, other times players will go hell for leather and kill everything in sight. Depending on the group and the story I will tailor encounters as needed. The One Rule to Rule Them All – The Rule of Cool. If you do something in game and it is more fun; more exciting; funnier; or just incredibly complimentary to how the game is running BUT it goes against the rules-as-written we will likely lean into where you and your characters are going. I'm not afraid to improvise around what you do and honestly? You and your fellow players are likely to cook up some amazing stuff on the fly as you break out of my story echo-chamber.

Safety

How Tom Jepson creates a safe table

I aim to keep my one-shot games at a "PG-13" level of content to ensure they are safe for nearly all players. There'll be nothing too controversial or explicit. At the beginning of a session I will cover my expectations of players, what they can expect from me, and how we keep our games safe and inclusive for everyone. If play crosses one of our defined boundaries and it makes you uncomfortable you may hold up an "X" card (scribble it on paper) or – if you're not happy to do this – message me in-game and I will bring us around to a place of safety and comfort again. I do not want, at any point, for anyone to feel like they're a 'buzzkill' when something is out of their comfort zone.
