About the adventure

An Unparalleled Gothic Horror Adventure Prepare for a dark fantasy journey into ninth-century Saxon England, where Viking sails crowd the horizon and something far more dangerous travels aboard their longships. London is still young, built beside the ruins of Roman Londinium. Monasteries burn, settlements fall, and Scandinavian armies carve their way across England. You will play Saxon vampires defending your homeland from mortal raiders, invading Viking Kindred, ancient monsters, and horrors buried beneath the city since Roman rule. Vampire: The Masquerade is a game of personal horror. You are powerful, immortal, and terrifying, but you must feed on blood to survive. Every night is a struggle against the Beast within, the hunger that pushes you toward violence, cruelty, and the loss of your humanity. You must protect the Masquerade, hide the existence of vampires from mortals, navigate dangerous undead politics, and decide how much of yourself you are willing to sacrifice to survive. 🩸 Level Range 1-20: Rise from a newly created vampire struggling with hunger into one of the most feared creatures in England. 🩸 Bound by Blood Character Options: Play the new Kindred class from Vampire: The Masquerade, Bound by Blood, with six clan-based subclasses and powerful vampiric Disciplines. 🩸 Viking Age England: Explore Saxon settlements, monasteries, haunted forests, burial mounds, ruined Roman structures, and blood-soaked battlefields inspired by real history. 🩸 Invading Viking Vampires: Face brutal Norse Kindred, mortal warbands, supernatural predators, and the shadow of ancient powers moving behind the invasion. 🩸 Personal Horror: Manage your hunger, resist the Beast, protect the Masquerade, and fight to preserve your humanity as immortality slowly changes you. 🩸 Roleplay-Heavy Storytelling: Expect a serious Gothic tone, complex relationships, undead politics, moral dilemmas, and choices with lasting consequences. There will be plenty of combat, but character development and immersive roleplay will remain at the heart of the campaign. 🩸 Homebrew Horrors: Encounter original monsters, rival vampire factions, hidden conspiracies, and ancient threats you will not find in any published adventure. 🩸 Immersive Presentation: Experience atmospheric artwork, eerie soundscapes, and distinct NPC voices that bring Saxon England and its undead inhabitants to life. 🩸 Ruleset Used: This campaign will use the 2024 D&D rules alongside the Vampire: The Masquerade, Bound by Blood class and character options. Embrace the hunger and enter Vampire: The Masquerade, London by Night. The ravens are circling, Viking sails have appeared upon the Thames, and the Beast is waiting. Seats are limited, so sign up now and claim your place among the damned.

About me

For over a decade, I’ve been guiding players through unforgettable adventures in Dungeons & Dragons. Since shortly after StartPlaying’s founding, I’ve been running games here and I’m proud to be among the platform’s top-rated DMs. That means you can expect reliable, immersive sessions shaped by years of professional experience. I spent years in higher education, earning an associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degree, only to realize that storytelling was my true calling. With additional training in voice acting, I bring NPCs, villains, and tragic figures to life in ways that feel layered and unforgettable. My goal is to make sure you feel immersed at every step, whether you are unraveling lore, facing difficult choices, or pursuing an epic character arc. When I’m not writing for my own homebrew world, you’ll find me lost in sourcebooks, consuming every bit of fantasy content I can, or testing out new tabletop systems. Don’t be surprised if I occasionally break into song at the table. I didn’t choose bard life, bard life chose me. If you love Critical Role, character-driven storytelling, and settings that breathe around you, pull up a chair. You’ll feel right at home at my table. And finally, don’t forget to love each other!

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created before the first session. After joining the game, players will be invited to the campaign Discord, where they will gain access to the full rules and information needed for character creation. We will also hold a Session Zero. Players who join in time for Session Zero will have the opportunity to ask questions, discuss character ideas, and work on their characters together if needed. Anyone who joins after Session Zero will be responsible for creating their character and having it ready before their first session. Backstories should be written before Session 1. I am always available to answer questions, help with character creation, and make sure everyone feels comfortable and prepared before joining the campaign.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a D&D Beyond account, and a Discord Account. A decent mic, headset and computer are also required. Other than that there is nothing players need to bring with them to session.

What Roxas brings to the table

I bring to the table the complete collection on D&D Beyond which gives the players in my campaigns access to all of that content. Foundry VTT a powerful software with dynamic lighting and special effects capabilities.

Homebrew rules

🩸 Potions: It is a bonus action to swig a potion. 🩸 Flanking: Flanking confers a +2 bonus to attack rolls instead of advantage. 🩸 Critical Hits: Critical hits cause the damage on the dice to be doubled instead of rolling extra dice. 🩸 Critical failures and Critical Successes: If a roll results in a natural 1, it is considered a failure. On the other hand, if the roll is a natural 20, it is always a success and may also have additional benefits, which are determined by me. 🩸 Death Saves: Death saving throws are done privately. 🩸 Stealth Outside Combat: Players make (Dexterity) Stealth rolls only when someone is in a position to see them or look for them. 🩸 Investigation Checks For Traps: When searching for traps, the person checking will roll a check once and continue to use that result until a trap is found in order to avoid constantly rolling. 🩸 Vicious Mockery or Tasha’s Hideous Laughter: If you use vicious mockery or Tasha’s hideous laughter and your joke/insult makes me laugh, the target gets no saving throw.

Safety

How Roxas creates a safe table

Lines & Veils We respect personal boundaries in our game. If you're uncomfortable with certain topics, please message me privately with your lines (hard boundaries to exclude) and veils (content that's okay but not described in detail). Our game may explore mature themes but will never include sexual assault. Breaks & Open Door Policy We'll take a break midway through each session for stretching, snacks, or restroom visits. You can step away from the game at any time for any reason without judgment. Everyone deserves respect to take care of their needs. Debriefs After each session, feel free to stick around to chat, decompress, or plan for next time. If you want to discuss anything about the session, you're always welcome to reach out to me. During Session 0, we will review the campaign’s tone, mature themes, safety expectations, and character creation guidelines. We will also discuss party cooperation, roleplay expectations, and how each character fits into the group and setting. Players will have the opportunity to share their Lines and Veils privately before or during Session 0. Lines are hard boundaries that will not appear in the game, while Veils are topics that may exist but will not be described in detail or played out on screen. We will also go over the campaign’s expected content, including violence, blood, death, horror, manipulation, religious themes, loss of control, addiction-like hunger, and the erosion of humanity. Sexual assault will never be included. Players may update their Lines and Veils at any time throughout the campaign.
