About the adventure
Something is wrong beneath Neverwinter. In this dark fantasy one-shot, your characters are hired to help keep order in one of the Sword Coast’s most famous cities — but what begins as a routine job soon pulls you toward old secrets, strange signs, and dangers best left buried. This is a compact, atmospheric adventure of investigation, dungeon exploration, eerie magic, and heroic action. This game is for players who enjoy creepy mystery, tactical encounters, cinematic moments, and classic D&D adventuring with a darker edge. Expect ruined places, suspicious clues, dangerous choices, and the feeling that something unseen may be watching — without the game becoming grim for the sake of it. I run D&D as a story-first, group-focused tabletop game using Foundry VTT for maps, automation, music, visuals, and atmosphere. The game may look polished and immersive, but the heart of the session is still tabletop D&D: character choices, teamwork, measured exploration, roleplay, and dice deciding the chaos. The aim is to get stuck into the adventure quickly and complete it in one session, though the pace will depend on player choices, tactics, roleplay, and dice rolls. Newer players are welcome, and experienced players will still have plenty to engage with. Bring a level 3 character, a sense of curiosity, and a willingness to step into the dark.

Meet the Game Master
About me
I’m a dedicated Dungeon Master with around two years of active DM experience, currently running multiple campaigns side by side across different systems and styles of play. I’ve had a lifelong love of D&D lore, fantasy worlds, monsters, gods, planes, heroes, villains, and epic adventure. I’ve also been an avid sci-fi and fantasy reader since childhood, so rich worlds, mystery, strange places, and memorable characters are a big part of what I bring to the table. My preferred platform is Foundry VTT, where I create immersive online games with maps, lighting, music, tokens, journals, automation, and atmosphere. Depending on the group, my games can feel tactical and dynamic, almost like a video game, or lean more into theatre of the mind, roleplay, dungeon crawls, exploration, and epic mystery. I run module-based adventures for D&D 5e 2024, Pathfinder 2e, and Starfinder 2e, adapting them to suit the party and make player choices matter. I won’t claim to know every rule by heart. What I do promise is careful preparation, fair rulings, a willingness to check rules when needed, and a focus on keeping the game moving so everyone has fun. Creating your character
Characters should be created before the session so we can get straight into the adventure. This game uses D&D 5e, with characters starting at level 3. Players can build their character using official D&D options, including the Player’s Handbook and other official character options. I am generally flexible with builds, but anything unusual, third-party, heavily optimised, or homebrew should be checked with me first so I can make sure it fits the game and table. For ability scores, use Point Buy or Standard Array. Please use normal starting equipment for your class and background, or discuss any alternative gear with me beforehand. Characters should be adventurers who are willing to work with a group and take on a dangerous job in Neverwinter. You can create your character in D&D Beyond, on a fillable sheet, or by sending me the details directly. I will build or import the final character into Foundry VTT so everything is ready to play with automation, tokens, sheets, and rolls set up properly. Newer players are very welcome. If character creation feels intimidating, send me your idea and I can help turn it into a playable character before the game.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Create or log into Discord We will use Discord for voice chat, table chat, links, and any questions before the session. A working microphone is needed, and headphones are strongly recommended to avoid echo. Join the Discord server before game time I will send the invite link after booking. Please join early so we can sort out voice, introductions, character questions, and any last-minute Foundry access issues before the adventure begins. Use a good computer and a fast, stable connection We will play using Foundry VTT in your web browser. You do not need to buy Foundry or install anything, but Foundry works best on a reasonably modern laptop or desktop computer with a strong internet connection. Chrome is strongly recommended. Please avoid Safari if possible, as Foundry can be unreliable with it. This game uses a detailed Foundry setup with maps, lighting, walls, automation, visual effects, sound, and a lot happening behind the scenes. For the best experience, you will need a solid computer and a fast, stable connection. A low-spec laptop, weak Wi-Fi, or unreliable connection may lead to slow loading, freezing, missing rolls, or needing to refresh the session regularly. Players outside Europe are welcome, but please be aware that you are connecting into a Europe/UK-hosted game. US and other long-distance connections need to be especially fast and stable. I do have non-European players who connect successfully, but if your device or connection is already borderline, Foundry may struggle. Choose how you want to handle your character Characters start at level 3. You can build your own character using official D&D options, or send me your character idea and I can help put it together. Newer players are very welcome, and I am happy to help with class, species, spells, equipment, and anything else that feels confusing. For ability scores, please use Standard Array or Point Buy. Official options are generally fine, but anything unusual, heavily optimised, third-party, or homebrew should be checked with me first. I will build or import your character into Foundry You can create your character in D&D Beyond, on a normal sheet, or by sending me the details directly. I will then build or import the final version into Foundry VTT so your sheet, token, rolls, attacks, spells, and automation are ready for the game. Arrive 10–15 minutes early if you are new I’ll help you check your character sheet, explain the basic Foundry controls, and show you how to move your token, roll dice, attack, cast spells, and ask questions during play. Bring the right mindset You do not need to be a rules expert. I am not expecting encyclopaedic rules knowledge from players, just curiosity, teamwork, and a willingness to jump into the story. This is a group game, so bring a character who wants to adventure with others and get involved.
What QuestKernel brings to the table
I provide a prepared Foundry VTT game with maps, tokens, lighting, automation, music, sound, visual effects, and character sheets set up so players can focus on playing rather than fighting the software. I spend a lot of time developing and refining my Foundry setup, so you can expect a polished virtual tabletop experience with clear maps, clickable rolls, atmospheric scenes, and helpful automation where it improves the flow of play. My GM style is story-first, cinematic, and player-focused. I enjoy dramatic moments, clever plans, heroic nonsense, clutch dice rolls, and characters doing ridiculous things that somehow work. I am not a “DM versus the players” GM — I want the party to feel challenged, but I also want them to feel like the heroes of the story. Combat is tactical and turn-based, with positioning, choices, teamwork, and consequences mattering. That said, I do not run the game like a speedrun or a video game. Foundry can look very polished, but we are still playing tabletop D&D: descriptive scenes, measured exploration, roleplay, and group decision-making are all part of the experience. I generally follow the rules, but I am not a rules encyclopedia and I do not expect players to be either. I have been playing and running D&D for a few years, and I spend a lot of time studying monsters, tactics, Foundry automation, and encounter design. If a rule question comes up, I will make the best fair ruling I can at the table and keep the game moving. I use character voices, narration, music, ambience, and visual presentation where they help the scene, but I care more about tone and immersion than putting on a theatre performance. Expect creepy atmosphere, dramatic descriptions, dangerous choices, and a table where teamwork, curiosity, and good humour are welcome. I am friendly to newer players, patient with questions, and happy to explain what is happening mechanically. Experienced players are also welcome, especially if they enjoy tactical combat, story hooks, and an immersive VTT setup.
Homebrew rules
I keep homebrew rules light so the game stays easy to follow, especially for newer players. Potions: Drinking a healing potion yourself can usually be done as a Bonus Action. Giving a potion to another character still takes an Action. Rule of Cool: I enjoy creative ideas and cinematic moments, but I try to keep them fair. If you want to attempt something unusual, describe what you are trying to do and I will set an appropriate roll, DC, or consequence. Rules calls: If a rule is unclear during play, I will make a fair table ruling and keep the game moving rather than stopping the session for a long rules debate. We can check the exact wording later if needed. Character death: I am not trying to kill player characters, but danger is real. Bad choices, risky tactics, and unlucky dice can have consequences. Foundry automation: Some rolls, effects, conditions, and combat features may be automated in Foundry VTT to speed up play. If anything looks wrong, just say so and I will check it. Overall, I aim for a game that feels fair, cinematic, tactical, and fun without burying players in extra rules.

How QuestKernel creates a safe table
Player comfort matters more than any scene, monster, or plot twist. This is a beginner-friendly adventure, and I want the table to feel welcoming, respectful, and easy to play at. Before the game, I will ask players to share any Lines and Veils privately if they want to. A Line is content that should not appear in the game at all. A Veil is content that can exist but should fade to black or stay off-screen. You do not need to explain personal reasons for any boundary. During play, players can use X, N, and O safety tools by message or voice: X means stop or remove the content immediately. N means slow down, change direction, or check in. O means everything is okay and you are enjoying the scene. You can also message me privately on Discord at any time. If something feels uncomfortable, confusing, too intense, or not fun, I will adjust without making it awkward. For this one-shot, the expected tone is heroic fantasy adventure with a darker edge: danger, mystery, strange magic, cult activity, insects/vermin, and the discovery of corpses. It is not grimdark horror, and I avoid graphic gore, sexual content, cruelty for shock value, or anything designed to upset players rather than challenge characters. After the game, I am happy to do a quick check-in, answer questions, and hear what players enjoyed or found difficult. New players are especially welcome to ask rules questions, request help, or say when they need a moment. The goal is an exciting adventure where everyone feels included and safe enough to have fun.
