About the adventure

This is a PBP game. Play as a party of recent "high school" graduates as you unravel the mysteries of this world. Divination, Necromancy, Illusion and Enchantment spells are strictly prohibited... so of course I expect that each of your characters will specialize or at least dabble in those schools of magic (following the rules is just boring.) Discover what shattered the world, influence the trajectory of this burgeoning Civilization and complete personal quests as a party. Your story will start at lvl 1 and carry you all the way to lvl 12 or maybe even further. Advancement will be milestone but I will make the milestones explicit, examples below. There is an optional Isekai plot if any Player is interested in playing as an Isekai PC 1. Gain a level when you dive your first dungeon 2. Gain a lvl when you complete a backstory quest (each pc will get a quest based on their backstory) 3. Gain a lvl when you kill an Archmage, A wizard capable of casting 5th lvl spells (there are 4, one for each legal school of magic) Lore Dump activate! "Uncounted Millennia ago the world was shattered and all that remained of the prime material plane was lonely islands drifting through space and held together by a wellspring of magic at their core. Seven hundred years ago a small tribe of human wizards discovered a method to tie these islands together with magic that would keep them close to each other. They began expanding and founded Civilization, an ancient word for what they sought. At the head of Civilization is the wizards college who teach and control knowledge of magic. Chief among their tenets is a prohibition on dark magic: Divination, Illusion, Necromancy and Enchantment. As new Islands drift close Civilization sends Adventurers to brave the journey to the heart of the island where the pool of magic lies and an anchor can be placed to keep it drifting near and add it to Civilization. You and your party have just graduated from the required schooling offered to all children and are encouraged to spend some time acting as adventurers before starting your careers or studying at the wizards college."

About me

I love telling story's, surprising my players and being surprised by them in turn. I got into DND in 2020 and from the very first one-shot that I ran I have been hooked on DMing. I love to shower my players with magic items that challenge the builds they make without unbalancing the game. I'm a strong advocate of rule-of-cool and will almost always allow cheese to work at least once. I enjoy combat but usually try and make it more interesting than just hit the other guy until they don't get up. But most importantly I want to see what your characters will do when they meet my homebrew worlds.

Character creation

Creating your character

I will share an Invite to a DNDbeyond campaign with blank characters in case you are out of slots. You will create a lvl 1 character using either 2024 or 2014 rules. We will decide as a group for the specific choices such as rolling stats or using point buy. I will have a list of additional feats that you will be allowed to choose from.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Have discord and dnd beyond accounts, introduce yourself in the discord and be sure to mention your startplaying name so I know what channels to grant you.

What Johnny brings to the table

I will provide the discord server and my DNDbeyond library of character choices. I do not have all of them but if there is an option missing that you wish to use then let me know and we will make it work.

Homebrew rules

We will decide these as a group but ones I'm fond of include, potions as a bonus action, crits deal max damage plus rolling for damage, and homebrew magic item crafting.

How Johnny creates a safe table

You will each send me your lines and veils privately via discord and I will post and pin the whole list for everyone, including my lines and veils. I like to run emotionally charged games where the bad guys are truly hate-able so it is vitally important that we respect each others boundaries and check in regularly to make certain that the bleed stays cathartic and doesn't become triggering. Please speak up if something is upsetting, the great thing about PBP is that there is always time to discuss and pivot, don't ever feel like you're ruining my plans, I'm great at pivoting and ruining the DMs prep is basically the players job anyway.
