About the adventure
Espionage and spiritual warfare inside the body of the Machine God! Play a member of the Last Batch, the last industrial champions made by the Nation of Nurad in a desperate attempt to save itself from the encroaching Blight. Mysterious resource shortages, political infighting, and nihilistic cults that have turned to the Void all threaten the people, but you and your Batch-mates have been commissioned to defeat them all. If you've never played Exalted before, the feeling is part Greek mythology, part anime - and in this case, part Fritz Lang's "Metropolis"! I like to describe Alchemicals as "Soviet steampunk cyborgs," and this story explores how such beings navigate unseen and not-yet-understood threats to the public they're literally built to protect. Follow-on campaigns "The Sovan War" and "Silent Green" available upon completion.

About me
Interactive storytelling is the best! I've been playing in, running, writing, and/or broadcasting games for about 25 years now, and in that time I've learned a lot about what works, what doesn't, and what gets folks excited at the table. You've got knowledge, too, whoever you are. Let's share! A couple of my projects are out there. With Ryan Hatt, I co-wrote ALL MUST BOW, a system-agnostic cosmic horror setting where the PCs are villains. (More about that at bleakhorizonspress.com) I've also co-hosted a superhero RPG actual-play podcast, Tales from Stringersberg, with my buddy Drew (Ninetale Hobbies on YouTube), which you can find on Spotify and some other places. I have a few stories on deck, complete with pre-gens, but would love to hatch something new with a long-term group. Maybe that's you and your crew! One way to find out. I welcome folks of all kinds - might not know your terminology yet, but I'll learn. The only exceptions to that are oppressors: authoritarians, racists, homo- or trans-phobes, Nazis, sexists, etc. Bottom line: either we agree that we're all human beings & show mutual respect, or we don't share a table. Pretty simple, really.

Creating your character
We can make characters together during Session 0. Also, I have a set of five (5) pre-gens available (first come, first served).
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need Discord, and to let me know what your user ID is so I can add you to my server as soon as possible. Dice-rolling will be done automatically and publicly in a text channel, so no dice are required. I would prefer that you have a webcam set up, because I feel that people's facial expressions are important to roleplaying, but if you have good reason to not appear on camera, we can discuss it. You will definitely need audio and a strong internet connection.
What Josh Flaccavento brings to the table
I'll bring all the rulebooks we need (I intend to shoulder the rules burden and let players focus on role-playing), some hand-drawn maps (they're not great, y'all), pre-made characters, and a hell of a story.
Homebrew rules
* objects as trainers (learn Abilities from items!) * a diplomacy mini-game * streamlined mass combat for strategy-warfare element

How Josh Flaccavento creates a safe table
This story takes place inside the body of a god, and that body is not well. Troubling ideas like depression and suicide, chemical warfare, and state-sponsored violence are likely to come up. There's also some uncomfortable images of human interaction/integration with technology (i.e. mild body horror).
