About the adventure

The world is ancient and tired. The age of man is coming to an end, and no accord with silent gods nor conclave of mages and wisemen will prolong its demise. And when the Last Age ends, there will be naught but ash and dust to follow it. These are the days of the Last Leagues and the Litanies of Lindwurms. Castles crumble, chivalry fades, lawlessness and desperation spread along the cracks. Will you be there to mend the breaks and tend to your fellow men, or will you seek to profit from the End Times? Leagues of the Last Age is an original homebrew campaign set in a ruined continent where adventurers and sellswords are in ever greater demand, expendable as they are. The last flickering lights of civilization are beset on all sides by monsters, barbarians, orcs and goblins, and darker powers stirring still. The adventure takes inspiration from works such as Battle Brothers, Mörk Borg, and old European folklore. As a simple band of miscreants and do-gooders, the party will start at level 1, with the threat of character death ever a possibility, should bad planning or the dice bring them to death’s door. As you fulfill contracts and develop your skills, the party may reach level 20 and leave their mark in a fading world, if they play their cards right.

About me

Hello there! My name is Vincent, and the two little gargoyles behind me are Bobby and Smaug, my warlock familiars. I started playing Dungeons & Dragons in university with my featherless friends and it quickly became our favorite hobby, so much so that I've been running official and homebrew campaigns for us ever since. And because I'm always eager to play and meet new characters and experience new stories, I would be thrilled to GM for You, intrepid adventurer!🧝🏽🏹 I even wrote my master's thesis about the positive impact TTRPGs have on social and creative skills as a potential form of group therapy. A session a week is good for the brain! 🧠🧙

Character creation

Creating your character

You can use any officially published book for character options, but homebrew content must be approved by me. We start at Level 1, using the Point Buy system for this campaign. (https://chicken-dinner.com/5e/5e-point-buy.html) If you're new to DnD, I'm happy to help with all the jargon and creating your first character. 👀 You can also keep your character sheet on any platform or even on paper. Same goes for rolling, physical dice are welcome, I won't stand between you and your clickity-clacks.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

🎤 A decent microphone & Internet connection 🎧 A Discord account (free to register) 📝 Create your Character Sheet - let me know if you need any help 🎓 Beginners are welcome, I will help you learn how to play 💻 Cameras are optional

What Vincent brings to the table

🧭 Maps, handouts & unique magic items 🧙🏽 A player- and character-oriented approach 🦇 A deadly fantasy adventure with exciting encounters ⚜️ Battle maps and a campaign map to explore on Foundry VTT 🎧 Our very own Discord server for voice chat 📜 A Quest Log to assist the note-takers of the party 🌒 Gritty monster hunting and immersive folk horror

Homebrew rules

I use a few pages worth of popular variant rules for 5e, the character limit doesn't allow for listing them, but once you join you'll have access to them. Some examples are: - Variant exhaustion rules - it is a cumulative -1 penalty per level of exhaustion, up to level 11 (where madness or death occurs). - Lingering injuries starting at level 4 - it only applies at truly devastating blows, and there is a chance to resist them. - Light flanking benefits. - Plunging attacks. - Many downtime activities, such as Harvesting, Crafting, Cooking, and Training. - Up to 3 Inspiration Points and Mighty Deeds.

Safety

How Vincent creates a safe table

This adventure deals with a variety of weighty topics and, after all, is a dark fantasy setting, featuring objectively evil and irredeemable antagonists. But humor frequently goes hand-in-hand with horror, and our goal, ultimately, is to have fun playing. We will go over safety tools, consent, and how the party will get together in Session 0, and at the end of each session we can discuss what went well and what should be improved. I will also send out a consent form in which you can let me know what content you don't wish to see in our games. This is a newbie-friendly game, I will help with the mechanical and rulebook-sides of the game, you just need to tell me what your character would like to do. 🎲
