About the adventure

A honed blade between the ribs of a thug. Poisoned wine on the lips of a noble. A compelled ghost unlocking the latch to a room where you sleeping rival's families lies. An admixture of deadly chemicals thrown into the window of a passing carriage from the rooftops. These, and other unscrupulous methods, are the brush with which you and your party of scoundrels will paint your masterpiece of criminal stories upon the canvas that is Doskvol; the haunted Victorian city shrouded in darkness, walled by lightning, and powered by the blood of demons. In this Campaign the players will create Scoundrels and a Crew that will be involved in the various criminal activities of Doskvol's underworld. Due to the nature of the system expect a very open-ended sandbox style campaign where the players' interests alone fuel the "on screen" action! Much of the inspiration for this game will come from various Crime Dramas, such as Peaky Blinders, The Wire, Narcos, Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser, The Thief game series, Dishonored, Bloodbourne, Gangs of New York, and Heat. New players & old are welcome! I have run this game for people who were totally new to TTRPGs as a whole and they are now avid fans of the hobby.

About me

Since I was a child I've had a passion for adventure and heroic, dramatic lives. When I was a young teen I explored this passion in the dank basements of my close friends where we would have 36 hour TTRPG marathons of dungeon diving and monster slaying. I also pursued living out the epic lives of others on the stage, where I won awards as a competitive actor in the New England One Act Competitions and local Improvisational Acting competitions. After my school years I set out to cut my teeth and gain experience with a life of real world adventure. I've lived in several foreign countries across the globe and become intimately familiar with cultures profoundly different from my own. I've competed in Mixed Martial Arts competitions and worked as a Teacher, Fine Dining Waiter, SCUBA Instructor, Underwater Cave Dive Guide, and more. In the last few years I've returned obsessively to one of my oldest passions, TTRPG; but now I can bring all of my experience from years of being an adventurer and leader into the fold. I bring an easygoing and fun loving attitude that seeks to make others comfortable to manifest the characters they wish to portray into a shared story/simulation with like minded individuals. I bring organizational skills that allow The Table to stay in the action for the duration of a session. I take pride in my ability to craft and run games and sessions that are tailor-fit to a playstyle befitting the Players at The Table, and leave My Tables thoroughly entertained and fulfilled!

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters and Crew will be created as a group during Session 0 so that we may all be on the same page as far as setting, backstory, motivation, etc. We will be using Deep Cuts rules, which change some character options, so keep that in mind if you are planning out your Scoundrel We will correspond before session 0 so if you want to bounce ideas off of me and have an idea ready for session 0 that is great!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Required: - Join my Discord and send me a message (https://discord.gg/eRgqkfthuC) - A device capable of accessing a website via browser - Microphone with at least intelligible quality Recommended: - Laptop/PC - FoundryVTT doesn't technically support touchscreen/android devices. It also can be somewhat laggy and frustrating to use on low performance machines. If you only have a low performance or touchscreen device it is still possible to play, but don't expect to be able to fully utilize many of the awesome features of FoundryVTT **NOTE** As Blades in the Dark happens largely in Theater of the Mind it is actually pretty easy to make low performance/touchscreen devices work!

What TheAdventurousGM brings to the table

Most importantly I bring a fun loving attitude and skills to keep the game moving and ensure everyone will get their time in the spotlight. "This City is Ours" is not just a cool line for the players within Duskvol, it's a powerful reminder to us, the players in real life. Blades In The Dark shines when the table takes control and uses the rich setting to make their own, totally unique, player driven stories of struggle and triumph through emergent gameplay and collaborative storytelling. I will use my skills as a Gamemaster to help pull that creativity out of everyone at the table and paint the city red with it. Fully tooled Foundry VTT instance that will make tracking your progress and seeing dice results easy giving us more mental bandwidth for collaborative storytelling! Foundry also offers fantastic tools for sensory aids to help guide our imaginations through dramatic scenes and stories. I'll provide an option soundtrack via a Discord Bot, but if you find BGM distracting or prefer your own tunes you are welcome to mute the bot. This game will take place is the Doskvol setting that is beautifully integrated into the systems rules. The entire plot and themes/tone of the game are driven by the players!

Homebrew rules

Not really "Homebrew", but we will be using Deep Cuts rules in their entirety unless the table unanimously is against it in session 0.

Safety

How TheAdventurousGM creates a safe table

Lines & Veils will be briefly discussed at the beginning of the first session and I will type up a quick shared doc while we do so. XNO Cards will be handled with a Foundry module to make things as easy as possible, although if you were to reach out to me another way instead of course I will respect any way you tell me you are uncomfortable with the direction the game is going. Most of the content warnings above can be worked around for this adventure, so if you are interested in playing but one of the content warnings is concerning you definitely reach out and we'll have a discussion!
