About the adventure
Somewhere, lost in the shrouded realms of death, lies a land of endless night where long-forgotten horrors are revealed to those who travel through the mist. There, in a crooked house lives a Crooked Man with a crooked grin. He raises crooked arms to a Crooked Tree at the edge of midnight and hears the whispers of the Old Ones. They speak of a beast that stalks the darkest woods and darkest hearts, a crown of horns upon its head. If you lose your way and feel a warm breath that chills you to the bone, run. Follow the songs of harvest time, and before long, you’ll find revelry in the dancing shadows of blazing wicker. No matter your story, these lonesome, misty rails will deliver you to where the hallowed cannot save you. Now is the time to brave the dark wood, beware the witching hour, and weave your own dreadful folktale underneath the Crooked Moon. You are about to embark upon a journey into the unknown, where uncanny folk with strange superstitions revere the Old Ways, and creatures of folklore lurk on the isolated fringes of civilization. The Crooked Moon is a tome intended to equip you with all the tools you’ll need to bring Folk Horror to 5E and turn your game into a terrifying tale told among friends.

About me
Heya, you may call me Lathan, and I am a massive fan of Dungeons and Dragons, Storytelling, Video Games, and well... media as a whole! I've played DND since 2018 and have been DM'ing for most of that time. At this point, I know the game inside and out and have DM'd a ton of campaigns for my friends, family, and lots of people I'd met through the DND Discord Server! I like to run a much more relaxed DND game that focuses on the players' characters and their stories while also fitting into a larger plot. I don't take things too seriously, so I don't expect you to as well! It's a significant bit of fun at my table, and I hope we can enjoy that ride together!

Creating your character
CHARACTER CREATION RULES: 2024 Rules! All Subclasses and Races allowed (Including from the DND Beyond Partners)! Homebrew is allowed, just make sure to send it to me first! Standard Array/Point Buy/Rolled (As long as it's in VC) Your choice for Equipment. Fixed HP Create backstories and send them to me! Good or Neutral Characters, but... If you want them to turn evil overtime, I will not stop you. It won't end well though.

What Lathan brings to the table
I bring a story-driven, cinematic D&D experience with a strong focus on character investment, memorable moments, and challenging encounters. I love rewarding creativity and giving players the freedom to approach problems in unique ways, whether through roleplay, strategy, diplomacy, or absolute chaos. You can expect: Tactical and high-stakes combat encounters A balance of serious storytelling and fun character moments NPC voices, ambient music, and immersive atmosphere when possible Rule of Cool moments when they make the game more exciting and memorable Meaningful player choices that shape the world and story Homebrew elements blended with official Forgotten Realms lore Opportunities for both combat-focused and roleplay-focused characters to shine I also allow all of my D&D Beyond sourcebooks to be used for character creation and gameplay options, so players have a huge amount of flexibility when building their characters. Official subclasses, races, spells, feats, and optional rules are all welcome unless otherwise discussed for campaign balance. Above all else, I want everyone at the table to have fun, feel involved in the story, and create unforgettable moments together.
Homebrew rules
Flanking - When two players stand in an area where they make a line through an enemy on the grid, they are able to Flank. This gives them advantage on the attack rolls. Critical Success/Fail - Natural 20's are an instant success. Natural 1's are instant fails. No numbers are added to these rolls. Rule of Cool - If you come up with an idea for something that is just really freaking cool, bring it up and you may be rewarded for it. In those cases, it could result in perhaps instant takedowns of enemies. Bonus Action Potions - All Potions can be used as a Bonus Action. To this extent, you can throw a potion at an ally who is downed to heal them, but they would only be able to move, use their bonus action, or use other special actions like Action Surge on their next turn. Help Action For Skills Require Proficiency - Self explanatory. Hidden Death Saves - You will roll Death Saves in private. Villainous Punishments - The more and more you focus on villainous actions, you will start to feel a shift in your morality. The dark powers of this land is truly without understanding, and the further you push yourself into the hole, you may never escape. To get all this flowery language out of the way: The more evil actions your character begins to take, the more you loose control of them, until eventually: Your character has become lost to you. Think of it as Exaustion, but an evil meter. There are 10 stages. Everyone begins at stage 1, but the more evil you do, these are actions like being selfish, committing atrocities, and much more that could be seen as evil will move you up a stage. Magical Healing Spells work on Constructs Defeat VS Death - When you reach 0 HP, roll your death saves. When you get 3 fails, you become defeated. A Defeated Person is basically dead. The only difference is that they are unconscious until a long rest, unless Revivified. They cannot be healed, unless through spells that affect dead bodies. Once a long rest is had, they return to full health! While they are defeated, an enemy can attack them. If they are attacked, they die, and after a long rest, they return thanks to one of the gods, but have a dark bargain and exhaustion level. This rule only applies if I do not say before combat, "This is a combat where you can die."
