The Last Sermon Under The Gallows Sun

The Gallow Sun cracks red sanguine over mud and clay; the condemned ride again, prayers answered with gnashing teeth and the reek of smoke and salt.

About the adventure

The Gallow Sun cracks and bleeds across a frontier gone wrong. Churches collapse under their own weight, hymns choke on dust, and prayers drift into the void. The old gods are silent, and faith is a language no one remembers. Ride through bayou and black-iron hills where superstition holds more sway than law. Folklore whispers through the swamps, carrying warnings in the hiss of snakes and the creak of cypress. Every choice tests your courage, your cunning, and what little morality remains in a land that has forgotten mercy. Here, faith is dead, the world drifts wrong, and only those willing to ride hard and fast can carve meaning from the silence. The Last Sermon Under The Gallow Sun is a grim-dark, folklore rich, religious horror campaign aimed more toward experienced players, but open to first-timers! Inspired by Red Dead Redemption, South of Midnight, and Area X this campaign will allow you to ride into the frontier as heroes or something more sinister and solve the issue of the sun cracking in half.

About me

Howdy, I'm Mav! For over a decade I have been a player for several different TTRPGS including D&D 5e, Vampire: The Masquerade, and Call of Cthulu. Around five years ago I decided to learn how to DM. Since then, I have gained a massive amount of experience that has made me confident enough to try my hand at being a professional DM! I hope to meet all you who are interested soon :)

Character creation

Creating your character

Once you are invited to the Discord Server and given the role, you are welcome to brainstorm ideas about possible characters. At Session 0 you will pitch me your character after discussing details they will be accepted.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

All you will need is a Discord account and a DnDBeyond account so that I can add you to a campaign.

What Maverick ☣️ Hound's Head brings to the table

I do character voices, ambient music, custom maps with no need for third-party platforms, and visual references. I tend to embrace the Rule of Cool and will allow many things as long as there is a solid reason and pitch behind them.

Homebrew rules

I use a ten-point exhaustion system, Better Potions: bonus action to drink, action to drink and gain max health, Better Criticals: the extra damage is equal to the maximum roll (s) of the dice! Ex. Longsword 1d8+3 would become 1d8+3 +8 on a crit, and Last Stand: You can decide to make your Last Stand. By Sundering Your Soul and giving it up to The Unknown, your character can get back up as a level 20 version of themselves.

Safety

How Maverick ☣️ Hound's Head creates a safe table

My very first responsibility as a GM is to ensure that my players are safe and comfortable. During session 0, I make sure to go over possible triggers that will come up in session and also have all new players fill out a form with their triggers that they would rather not see come up in game!
