About the adventure
You and your fellow crewmates start out has hardscrabble crew of skyfarers with an eye on a future of fame and freedom. As your legend grows, you will find opportunities, allies, and even get to build and customize your own airship! We'll use our session zero to explore the setting and establish your characters, their bonds to each other and the world, and what secrets and goals they hold. If you enjoyed Firefly or Dimension 20: Cloudward Ho, this is the campaign for you! The campaign features: ➼ A Custom Setting! Skysea is inspired by space westerns like Firefly, but with steampunk technology, magic, and other classic aspects of D&D that we know and love ➼ Stand-alone capers and an overarching plot tailored to the goals of the players. ➼ A new pantheon of the winds that both players and NPCs can actively beseech or oppose ➼ Machinations of political rivals and mysterious powers, whose plots are advanced or thwarted by player choice. ➼ An airship that can be upgraded and customized to your liking (powered by HaTD's excellent Sky Zephyrs supplement, which I will provide for the party) Roleplay, combat, and exploration will be equally important factors. Players will be rewarded both for creative solutions and successful battles!

About me
Hi there! Since my first homebrew D&D 5e campaign in 2015, I have loved every moment of being a game master. I live for the times where the game comes alive and both the players and I can’t wait to see what happens next. In addition to Dungeons and Dragons, I've also had a great time exploring new genres through systems like Monster of the Week and Avatar: Legends, and can’t wait to use even more games to share everything the hobby has to offer. My proudest moments as a DM have been guiding new players as they find their voice, watching them embrace the suspense and laughter of a game. The most fun moments for me are giving voice to NPCs that delight the table and finding ways to give players' actions weight and create ripples in the broader world that come back to drive the story. As a trans woman, I also love the potential of ttrpgs as an opportunity to explore identity! It was a wonderful way for me to test the waters before first sharing who I really am with the world. With the moderation of safety tools, it can be so much fun to explore a different side of yourself, whether you are just beginning to question or are settled and comfortable in your gender and who you are. Whether you are a seasoned veteran or just beginning to explore tabletop roleplaying games, I’m looking forward to our next adventure together!

Creating your character
We'll create your character at level 1 during our first session, using point-buy for stats. Players are encouraged to build their characters using the core D&D 5e 2024 player's handbook, plus your favorite supplemental book if you'd like! This can include any D&D 5e 2014 material that has not been updated yet for the new edition (for example, you can use the Peace domain cleric from Tasha's, and we'll work together to establish how its features transfer over to a 2024 cleric) .
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players will need to have a Discord account and Roll20 account. I will send you invites to my discord server for voice chat and to the campaign on Roll20. I would highly recommend managing your character sheet on D&D Beyond and use the Beyond20 browser add-in to tie your character sheet to Roll20. You can also manage your character sheet on Roll20.
What Brooke - Wrathanet brings to the table
This campaign will feature mood-setting music specifically chosen for the campaign, uniquely voiced characters, and adventures customized to align with the goals of the party and character backstories. The party will get to build and customize their own airship and battle on land and sky! I run the rules as guidelines, with an emphasis on everyone at the table having fun and telling the best story. I don't intend to pull punches, but I do intend to reward creative solutions and dramatic moments.
Homebrew rules
At the end of every session, players will nominate each other for two awards: Each player gets a point of favor with one of the winds of the setting, which can be used to roll for the chance at a divine blessing. One player is nominated for a point of inspiration - whoever had the coolest moment, the best roleplay, or was the most helpful to the party! I like to borrow some rules from Draw Steel, notably skill tests, negotiation, and montage tests. If you don't know what those are, not a problem! It means I like to add opportunities for success at a cost or a partial success when you don't roll well, and also some activities will require creative solutions and more than a single roll to determine success. Some skill checks may be organized as a group effort, where the majority of rolls must succeed. Otherwise, up to two members of the party can participate: either one assisting the other, or both rolling separate checks. When rolling for HP when you level up: if you aren't satisfied with the roll, you are allowed to roll a second time and take the average of the two rounded down. Level-ups will be milestone based.

How Brooke - Wrathanet creates a safe table
As part of session zero, I will ensure all players have an opportunity to send me an RPG consent checklist confirming lines, veils, and acceptable topics. Additionally, I've included options on roll20 to allow players to quickly and easily indicate a range of points publicly or anonymously: Rewind to go back and discuss what has just happened Stop to end the current scene with no obligation to explain Play to continue the scene and confirm you are comfortable Pause to halt and discuss Fast Forward to wrap up a scene or zoom out Raised hand to indicate you don't want to interrupt the scene but want to join in when you can These are shared in chat and can be shared either publicly or anonymously. Sessions will include a break at the halfway point for decompression and deciding on your path forward. Lastly, I will include time at the end of session to decompress and discuss the adventure and for end-of-session stars and wishes to ensure I am meeting players' expectations and comfort level with game material.
