Campaign Description In a world ravaged by war, the actions of heroes can have world-altering stakes. Defend the people of Kalaman against seemingly insurmountable odds as Krynn prepares for war. With a background in stage, film and TV, both in front and behind the camera--Russell’s interests centre on the power of roleplaying games to create unique, shared experiences--that exceed the expectations of his players. With thirty-five years of experience running tabletop roleplaying games, Russell's philosophy as a DM is to create "the illusion of total agency" for his players. He is equally at home running team-building exercises as he is teaching professional screen-acting, kicking in doors or slaying ogres. If you are looking for a story-focused, character-based roleplaying game (one-shots, campaigns, mini-campaigns) Russell will bring his considerable storytelling techniques and abilities to bear, delivering you an adventure which you will remember. Creating your character
Process and Timing Collaborative Building: Character creation is a collaborative process between the DM and the player that can take between 20 minutes and an hour. Timing: This discussion can be spaced out via chat, email, or Zoom, or completed in the hour before your first session begins. Platform: Characters should be created on DnDBeyond. Joining the DM's campaign link there will provide access to shared resources and expanded creation options. Sessions will be run using the ABOVE VTT which is free and runs as a Chrome/Firefox extension in your browser over DnDBeyond. Setting and Lore Requirements. Krynn Specifics: Players must be aware of the specific restrictions and options unique to the Dragonlance setting. Starting Level and Hook: Characters begin at Level 1 and will meet in the town of Vogler to attend the funeral of a mutual friend, Ispin Greenshield. Race Restrictions: To maintain the setting's mood, certain races are unavailable, including Drow, Orcs, Halflings, Changelings, and Tieflings. Unique Options: Players have access to setting-specific options like the Kender race, and backgrounds that grant unique feats. Mechanics and FactionsStarting Feats: By choosing the Knight of Solamnia or Mage of High Sorcery backgrounds, characters receive a bonus feat (Squire of Solamnia or Initiate of High Sorcery, respectively) at character creation. (Other characters also gain a bonus feat from a standard shortlist). Faction Oaths: Knights of Solamnia must eventually commit to the Order of the Crown, Sword, or Rose. Mages of High Sorcery must eventually pass a Test and align with the White, Red, or Black robes based on their moral alignment. Player ResourcesGuides: Players are encouraged to download and read the "Protocols" and relevant world notes from the "Fileshare" page on the Rolestream website. Tutorials: Video guides, such as "How to Make a Character on DnDBeyond," are available on the RKDM YouTube channel for those who need technical assistance. Lore Research: Players are encouraged to research the lore of Krynn online, as familiarity with the setting adds depth to the character.

Preparing for the session
You will need: Preferably a webcam and microphone but you can choose to play without video if you need to! You will also need a free Zoom account (I have a subscription so you don't have to pay for it) and a free DnDBeyond Account with the Above VTT extension running in your browser. With 40 yrs DM experience and a background in writing, directing and acting for screen and theater I intend to bring you an authentic Dragonlance DnD experience. Besides providing digital tools and I will assure that you and your character are ready to go in to this campaign with a clear goals, a strong voice and deep pathos.
