About the adventure

Halloween is usually a jubilant time, but a pall has fallen over the small town of Hillsborough. Several young children have gone missing, and though the police have been trying to keep the disappearances quiet, rumors are spreading that something is deeply wrong. On Halloween night, a group of trick-or-treaters stumbles over the trail of the latest victim and discovers a realm where fantasy becomes reality, and imagination is power. If they are brave, they might be able to rescue the lost... and uncover secrets that could save or condemn Hillsborough forever.

About me

I started running Vampire: the Masquerade twenty-six years ago and have been expanding my expertise ever since! I've run every D&D edition from AD&D through 5.5e, and a wide variety of other games ranging from Call of Cthulu to TMNT And Other Strangeness, Buffy, Firefly, etc. I run D&D clubs for the school district, local game stores, and at conventions.

Character creation

Creating your character

Starting Level 3 Canon Only, No Race/Class Restrictions but No Homebrew Special: This game begins in the modern day, with characters who are children out trick-or-treating for Halloween. Your character's Race & Class are based on their trick-or-treat costume. Magic items will be assigned by the DM based on your costume choices. You can have any mundane item, regardless of listed cost, but it must be part of your costume. EXAMPLES: Last year I had trick-or-treater dressed as Squirtle. The species was tortle, the class was echo-knight, so their echo was the Squirtle-Squad. I had another character who dressed in a cow suit with a halo - she was a Holy Cow which ended up statted as a Firbolg Cleric. One kid dressed as Jotun Loki and was a Tiefling Paladin/Warlock. Use your imagination, and don't be afraid to accessorize!

Preparing for the session

What Sonneillon V. brings to the table

This is a beginner-friendly, all-ages game that focuses on imagination, fairy tales, and childhood dreams of heroism! Guided character-creation will be done together as a group in a free first session. This campaign is designed to provide opportunities to learn and explore the 5e system, though I STRONGLY suggest familiarizing yourself with the roll20 interface outside of game time, as that is a separate animal. Roll20 provides a lot of videos and tutorials to assist you! My style is mostly rules-as-written but I have a few standard house rules that will be fully explained (and identified as house rules) to avoid confusion. I like to focus on character development, so personal story hooks will be offered to help tie your character directly to the plot! While there is some fantasy violence, scary ambience, and briefly touched on dark implications (children are disappearing, after all), this campaign is appropriate for everyone age 13+.

Homebrew rules

Using an action to drink a healing potion grants max healing critical success and fumble on saves and skill checks 4e skill challenges No character death! Characters merely drop unconscious at 0hp.

Safety

How Sonneillon V. creates a safe table

Character creation/session 0 is free. We will discuss potentially sensitive content, and what needs to be kept behind a line and what can be veiled. We'll also discuss table etiquette and expectations to ensure we're all on the same page, and I have 'office hours' outside of game during which you can bring any concerns to my attention in privacy.
