About the adventure

Content Touchstones: Starstruck Odyssey, Cowboy Bebop, Star Wars, Space Dandy, Firefly Well, here you are. Neon Academy. For whatever reason you find yourself attending, it's officially your first day as you stand in the presence of Boatswain Tarto, the Academy's Training Officer. The next few weeks will be full of regular Spacer Academy training: Learning to pilot, mock battles and lots of chores; but you can't help but possibly be excited for what lies beyond; after all, a Spacer who makes a name for themselves is never forgotten... So, what are you waiting for? Adventure lies just ahead and the future isn't far off! After all, Space, like a Spacer's dreams, is endless. (Come play a Space Opera themed Spelljammer game using species, sub-classes and space combat that doesn't feel boring! Get access to 3rd-Party Spelljammer content as well as other 3rd party content from across D&DBeyond and other sites for your character creation in order to live out your Space Opera fantasy!)

About me

🐿️Hey guys, Squirrel here!🐿️ 😮With over 2 years and now over 800 games, I've realized that if you work hard enough you can truly turn your passion into work. And as they say if you love your job, you never work a day in your life! With 12 years in TTRPGs and character driven acting work, I excel at bringing my players into the spotlight where no matter your skill level, you can shine your brightest. With experience running for friend groups, convention groups and online pick-up groups via paid and unpaid platforms you can be sure that my fluid improvisational style of running a game is built to make sure that each player feels: Important to the overall story, thoroughly invested and engaged in the story and most importantly, is having fun! 🎲 During my session you can expect 🎲 📖 Fantastic and Descriptive Storytelling 📖 Each scene you pass through, each creature you see... I adore describing the sights, sounds and smells around so you as a player can truly feel lost in the adventure. Even in module books, expect descriptions to never just sound as though "they were read off of a page"! I use a mixture of detailed descriptions, sound effects and physical foley work to make my worlds really feel as though they are jumping out of your headset. 🎭 A passion for group collaboration and roleplay 🎭 Roleplay is a huge passion of mine, and as such is a huge part of my tables. You can expect a wide variety of NPCs to roleplay with, however I heavily encourage inter-party roleplay in my sessions! Not only is it an awesome way to make some new friends at the table but is a great way to develop your character's relationship with the other characters in the party. During my sessions, I allow players to roleplay in scenes without the worry of the GM forcing the game forward. If the whole party is having a great time chatting at the tavern with a new NPC they met, then why should we stop them from having a great time? It's a great way to work on your roleplay skills if you are still new to the idea! 🌍 A living world that you can affect 🌍 In a Squirrel game, your characters are just as much a part of the world as the NPCs you interact with. Backstories as well as mid-campaign actions all have reactions, consequences and/or rewards. NPCs and locations are dynamic, descriptive and feel alive (Until they aren't alive anymore...). Time passes in places even when the party has left instead of coming to a pause, allowing different developments to occur each and every time the party comes to a location, regardless if they've been there before!. As they say in RPGs... "Squirrel will remember that." 🤝 Patience and Understanding 🤝 As a GM who has run for players of all skill levels for over 12 years now, I can gladly say that everyone starts somewhere. Some players are very skilled at playing TTRPGs but have no skills when it comes to Virtual Tabletops and vice-versa. No matter your level of skill in whichever part of playing, my tables and community are two of the most accepting and patient places that I've seen on the internet. As a person who frequently hosts photoshoots, meetups and TTRPG games at conventions around the country, I've handled groups of all ages for TTRPG sessions as well as organized photoshoots and have also helped organize major unofficial meetups for large fanbases such as Dimension 20, Dropout and Baldur's Gate 3. You can be sure that no matter what type of question you have, I've heard it before and am more than willing to help make your experience easier, better and more enjoyable. 🫂 Outside of StartPlaying 🫂 I also run a TTRPG community! The Kicked Squirrel Inn is my community of awesome players and TTRPG enthusiasts that has been running for just over two and a half years now. We pride ourselves on being one of the most accepting communities on the internet when it comes to TTRPGs and accept people from all walks of life no matter your differences. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ myself, we have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to homophobia and other discrimination. Come on in and meet some awesome friends, every good adventure starts at the Inn! 😱My top genres😊 Horror, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Comedy (𝘌𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘳𝘢 𝘢𝘸𝘦𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺 𝘪𝘯 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘮𝘦!) 🎆Thanks for taking the time to check out my profile! 🎆 🎲If you've made it this far, take a gander down to the bottom of the page and check out which listings I currently have open, or hit the follow button to see when I launch a new one! May all your Ds be 20 and all your hits be Crits!🎲

Character creation

Creating your character

Character Creation will either be done during session zero or prior to and will use point buy and or standard array. Players may use ANY content from a published source (May be 3rd party however if not located on D&DBeyond. the player will be required to send me a copy of a screenshot or image of the content in question. I will also provide a list of the pre-approved off-site content in Discord for easy access)

The current party

Space Opera Themed Campaign Party is level 2 about to head off into space on a simulated journey to help them get their bearings.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need to have/bring: -A Microphone and Discord Downloaded -A DNDBeyond and a Roll20 account (They're both free) -Beyond20 Browser extension for Firefox or Chrome (Not necessary but makes stuff easier) -Your character, if you've decided to make it in advance -A Webcam (If you would like to use video, but this isn't required) -A Positive Attitude and a BIG Smile :D

What Squirrel brings to the table

As your GM, I bring a variety of tools to each of my games. Aside from the typical stuff (Roll20, Discord and DNDBeyond), I also really enjoy bringing NPCs to life with different personalities and voices, as well as a constant ambient backtrack to make you really feel immersed in the world. My main focus in all of my sessions is player comfort and having fun bringing our story to life together! When it comes to rulings, I like to read the table. If the table wants a hardcore RAW experience then we will stick to the rules as they were written, but if the table is looking to kick back and have fun then I'm totally here for it! Rules are only as fun as we at the table make them. Remember when it comes to rulings that my table has an open door policy! Don't be afraid to ask questions if you'd like. Lastly, when you're playing at my table, pack extra smiles and be prepared to HAVE FUN!

Homebrew rules

Potions may be taken as actions for the full amount of health points. Flanking rules in effect for melee attacks and melee spells. Disadvantage Natural 1s come with consequences (This goes for players and NPCs)

Safety

How Squirrel creates a safe table

When it comes to player safety and comfort nothing is more important, which is why during every session zero I make sure to ask my players about their limits by doing a brief anonymous Deck of Player Safety session, letting them know any content warnings that may be present in the adventure and informing them about my open door, break and debrief policies. Players are also welcome at any time to either take a break from the game, and at no point will they ever be asked to go into detail about ANYTHING they may not be comfortable with relaying. Also, while the game is going on, if at any point a player needs content to stop immediately, they may hold up an X/N or type one in chat. This will allow me to make the necessary moves needed to make sure everyone continues to have a great time playing. We also have several ways that a player can send one of these cards anonymously for player privacy. I am also a huge believer in debriefing/aftercare. At the end of each session I will always hang around for anywhere between 10-15 minutes to chat about the session and to just generally hang out with anyone who wants to stick around! This is great for sessions where we may get into some heavier content so we can either discuss it or unpack it if need be or great if you had any specific questions for myself. Lastly, Player comfort is key. If anything is happening at the table or in my community that is making you feel uncomfortable, unsafe or no longer enjoying yourself please make sure that it is brought to the mods or my attention so that it can be handled immediately as we have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to player discrimination or harassment. Remember, Comfort and Fun come first at The Kicked Squirrel Inn and we can't wait to see you around the table!
