About the adventure

The train's name is "The Widow's Cry". It's a high-speed steam locomotive, fuelled by demonic leviathan blood, racing on an electro-rail through the gloomy Deathlands. The job? Steal a mysterious box. The complication? Not all on this train is quite what it seems. Your greatest weapon? SHEER AUDACITY. Choose your heroic scoundrel: The Highwayman: A silver-tongued bandit with twin pistols and a score to settle. The Line Boss: Respected, hard-nosed veteran of the railroad who knows this train like nobody else. The Rail Jack: A fiery young zealot with magnetic boots that can surf the electro-rail. The Wretch: The most dangerous person in the room. If they are person at all... The Scalpel: A former military surgeon turned saboteur, poisoner, perhaps even killer. The Snake: The mysterious foreigner who moves like a shadow and heeds the spirits' call. A Blades In the Dark adventure for 6 ne'er-do-wells, miscreants and rapscallions.

About me

I'm Shane, better known online as Entropicana. I've been running TTRPG campaigns for 40+ years - not that long in geological terms. My games embrace a wide slew of genres, but my favourites are spy fiction, crime stories, science-fiction and fantasy. I don't shy away from romance, so long as it's tasteful and fits the vibe, and everyone's ok with it. I love politics and intrigue, but only in the story - no OOC drama at the table, thank you kindly. :) I am quite media literate (Read: I read/watch way too much stuff) and will be across most popular movie and series touchstones for my favoured genres.

Character creation

Creating your character

There are 6 pre-generated characters ready to play. Each one has abilities and backgrounds tailored to the story. You're encouraged to make them your own, with personality, appearance and gender presentation completely customizable. If you'd rather not play one of the pre-gens, message me at least 24 hours before first session and we'll see what we can do.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Be on Discord with a working microphone. No webcam needed. Have a Roll20 account, which you can create for free at roll20.net

What Entropicana brings to the table

Yes, I do voices and accents, frequently and unapologetically. Thrilling ambient music will be provided. You can mute it if you like. This is a game. There are rules. But the most important one is... The Rule of Cool: Fall in love with Danger! Do awesome sh*t! And if it doesn't work (and sometimes even if it does), enjoy your complimentary consequences! I promise I'll make them fun too.

Homebrew rules

For those who've played the Blades system before, I have two main house rules that differ from the book: 1. The number of consequences you'll face depends on your Position: 1 for Controlled, 2 for Risky, 3 for Desperate. You can only resist one consequence from any given action roll, unless your companions can help or you use armor or an ability to resist harm. 2. Exceeding your Stress limit doesn't automatically remove you from the game. You can still do one last heroic (or antiheroic) action before you go down in a blaze of glory or have a meltdown.

Safety

How Entropicana creates a safe table

Lines and Veils will be discussed as part of the first session, and you can message them to me on Discord if you're shy. Similarly, if you are uncomfortable during the session, simply message me and I'll resolve it quickly or give you a way around it. Anything non-urgent, talk to me after the session. I'm a good listener and am 1000% committed to making sure all my players are comfortable and having fun.
