About the adventure

See You Space Cowboy... is intended to live in the space between the Mandalorian, Cowboy Bebop, and Firefly. As a Star Wars: Edge of the Empire game, the gameplay will focus on a small group of poor individuals traveling the galaxy and being bullied by powers greater than themselves looking to exploit them for their own gain. It is set in the Star Wars era immediately following the end of Return of the Jedi, the Emperor is dead and the Rebel Alliance is triumphant however this victory does not cause the machinery of Empire to be immediately overthrown and replaced. With this setting there will be numerous different possible job paths and work to be done to satisfy any type of character moral and ethical framework. Characters are meant to be made to represent crewmembers on a bounty hunting/mercenary vessel, with them being thrown into situations and betrayed by employers as a matter of course. Traveling the galaxy is expensive to do independently, and the Edge of the Empire game mechanics are going to be used to emphasize this.

About me

I have been playing tabletop RPGs for over a decade, and running the games I’ve played for nearly as long. I was introduced to gaming working at a ren faire as street cast, and the connection between the two has always been a part of my gaming. What that means is that I try to run games as a collaborative storytelling experience, working with the players to build a character driven narrative using my decade of improv experience. The result of this is a game and a story that is reactive to player actions. And despite my kind of auteur and philosophical approach, my instincts are sort of pure comedy and b-movie. I look to create entertaining setpieces and offer wild characters and story beats. Because in the end, I am just trying to have fun.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation tools are made available in the discord server for the game. However, as of Session 0, I only request that the player has at least a basic idea for what kind of character they are interested in playing. Character creation itself is entirely standard to Edge of the Empire.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

The game will be run through discord so it is necessary to have a discord account to use. There is an old character generator that is available on the discord, I cannot call it entirely necessary since I have made characters without it, but it is a useful tool when it doesn't fail to work.

What karmicknight brings to the table

I will provide constant visual aid as well as links to the funniest relevant webpage on the internet (wookieepedia) mostly to provide additional context for events that are happening. The system and my style lend itself to a loose presentation, there is danger but danger is a relative thing. Tactical and technical combat have their place, but take a backseat to properly designed set pieces. I also strive to provide NPCs with characterization and memorable gimmicks, at least enough to include in a baseball card.

Homebrew rules

For the introductory arc I will be not using a rule that states that immediately following a character suffering wounds over their threshold they receive a critical injury with the number of wounds added as ranks in lethal blows. That will eventually be put by the wayside.

Safety

How karmicknight creates a safe table

Session 0 will include an overview of the use of the active safety measures (breaks and X, N, O) with the following basic premises: red and yellow card emoticons are provided to base the X and N cards on and can be used privately or publicly and breaks are available (both if things get intense emotionally or for physical needs)
