About the adventure
This cinematic “first module,” is playable as a ONE SHOT or as an introduction to Hal's new campaign series starting in September. If you have ever wondered what 'ANCIENT DUNGEON DELVING' felt like back in the 70's and 80's... here's a chance to do so with a grizzled veteran DM. Leave your preconceptions behind ... expect immersion, danger, and a vivid, grounded, perilous journey. Travel Log : You make your way to the dimly lit dock area. Thatched roofs, plastered walls, and an inviting glow from a fire within a ticket booth. An old man at a barred window, takes the ticket you hand him and he gestures to a door ... "That way to the Airship... flight takes off in 20 minutes." You enter a room with a huge window view of what looks like a colourful river ferryboat but it floats ! ... held down by ropes. As you watch the sailors winching some boxes into the hold of the floating ship...You think about your luck. You were handed a mysterious note last week. It said, simply, that if you sought rewards... meet in the city of Verbonc, at an assigned hour. And included with the letter was a ticket for a night flight on a flying machine, and a pouch with 20 fat gold coins. This seemed like EXACTLY the break you have been waiting for... and despite the mystery... you jumped at this strange opportunity. Sitting in the waiting room your eyes meet with others who look both as confused, wary and on guard. The room you are in? Smells of wood smoke and perfume. Very nice furnishings... very posh. The main room is actually laid out like a tavern. There is a small 10 ft. bar, shelves with bottles behind it.. and off to the corner, a crackling fire. There are tables, chairs and some padded benches in the corner... enough room for 30... Though there seems to be only 12 seats taken. The bartender asks you what complimentary beverage you'd like and tells you it's a nice evening for a flight... and the ship will only be half full so lots of room to stretch about. Soon, a Sailor in a tri-corner hat, escorts the 13 of you to the Air Ship. A beast of a machine... the likes you have never before seen. Yes... you absolutely can't believe your luck. This is the opening to the adventure... Winterfall. Crash in the Mountains. First level play with modified characters that players assist in creating before the actual game. Pick your Race, Profession and Gender... and the DM's random generation system will provide a Unique, detailed character with attributes specifically designed for play in his World.

About me
Hello fellow gamers :) I began my history of Dungeon Mastering in 1979. On top of a windswept mountain peak in the Kananaskis Valley in Alberta Canada. Running games for a captive audience... I developed a style born of my experience and training in theatre arts. A game style emphasizing an immersive, cinematic experience where I gave the players their surroundings by describing the world through their characters' eyes. Building tempo and watching carefully for cues from my players as to how to direct the game. To me, I love reading the table... knowing when to press tension and when to let the moment breathe. My DM style is grounded. I let the characters shape their own destinies with their actions. I play a world where consequences matter, innovation is rewarded and sessions are shaped to PULL players into the scene... not just drop them a map. I Dungeon Mastered exclusively. Being behind the screen gives me the biggest kick. I have DM'd in cities from Calgary, Ottawa, Toronto, Waterloo and places between. Weekly games, attended by veteran players, for years... our longest campaign went 14 years. I stopped around the year 2003. And now, 23 years later, I'm dusting off my games, recreating my worlds, updating my files, improving my delivery ... AND ... cherry picking the absolute BEST of the 5e designs. I understand that the game has evolved and I'm really looking forward to : ~ offering today's players a chance to ... Step back in history and experience Dungeons & Dragons... 1980's Old School.
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
I have developed a comprehensive character generator for this campaign. With the players' input... we create the characters before game night. It takes less than 10 minutes. The emphasis is on physicality. All aspects of the characters have subtly contributed to the Saving Throw Tables. Players can create back stories, if they wish.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Before game night: ~ Have a working microphone and Discord account set up ~ Join the game Discord server (link will be provided after booking) ~ Be available briefly before the first session for character creation (10 minutes) ~ Come ready to listen, engage, and think from your character’s point of view No rulebooks or system knowledge required. Everything needed to play will be provided or explained at the table.
What Hal Leggett brings to the table
I run a fully guided, immersive experience. ~ Strong environmental description using all five senses ~ Controlled pacing — building tension, then letting moments breathe ~ A living world where actions have weight and consequences matter ~ Minimal hand-holding — players are given information, not direction I focus on pulling players into the scene rather than presenting mechanics. You can expect: ~ Distinct NPC presence (voice, tone, intent) ~ Situations that reward observation, creativity, and planning ~ Combat that is grounded, dangerous, and meaningful ~ A game shaped by player decisions, not a fixed path
Homebrew rules
This is an Old School–inspired game built on AD&D foundations with adjustments for flow and clarity. Character generation is handled through a custom system designed for this world. Emphasis on physical attributes and how they affect survival and outcomes. Rulings over rules when needed — decisions are made at the table to maintain pace Full details are explained during character creation and play.
