About the adventure
Echoes in the Mist is a game of tenacity in the face of annihilation. With the apocalypse on the city’s doorstep and no signs of salvation, mortals eke out their existence whilst the powers that be desperately seek answers. The biggest question of all: why did the mist stop? Surrounded and cut off, the city of Mistecho stands as a beacon of humanity in an age of destruction. Forced to live side by side after the fall of nations and empires, people united in the face of catastrophe, forging unstable truces in order to exist alongside one another. But it is not just people who were forced to live in reluctant harmony. The mists drove every living thing within Mistecho’s walls, from animals to monsters. In the first days, this led to the Great Ruin, when half the city was lost to the infestation and deemed the Wildlands. Three years later, a great wall separates the civilised city from the Wildcity, and few dare cross its boundaries except for the thrill of the hunt. Within these city walls, your group was thrust together through happenstance. Drawn from all across the fallen world, you banded together and found solace, perhaps even friendship, in your ragtag company. The fall of the world to the mists, and the deaths of countless heroes of legend, have left Mistecho rife with opportunity for new heroes to take up the mantle, and your group is ready to do so. Theme: Echoes in the Mist: The Final Haven is a game that focuses on the will to survive and the challenges that arise from forced proximity and the looming dread of apocalypse; the hope that can be found in the darkness and the heroes who bring light. Mistecho is a vast city state, but it still pales in comparison to the majesty of the lost world. The citizens of Mistecho all remember the beautiful Eden that existed before the mountain cracked and the mists fell, and many mourn the loss of the open expanse. This is a game about heroes trying to do good in a city struggling to come to terms with the ways of the new world. At its heart, Echoes in the Mist explores the resilience of humanity when hope is scarce and survival demands compromise. It is a story of community, compassion, and the fragile light that endures in the face of fear, loss, and moral uncertainty.

About me
Author of 'No Hope From Nowhere', D&D geek, and part-time narrative designer. I'm also an advocate for accessibility rights, mental health awareness, and the LGBTQ+ community. My games endeavor to provide a safe space for people of all walks of life to engage and enjoy themselves without fear of judgment. As a GM, I've been running games for over two decades in a multitude of systems, alongside designing my own homebrew settings and publishing written works, including my debut novel. I prefer to encourage roleplay and character development first, with combat and puzzles secondary yet integral to the stories I help weave. Additionally, the following three rules are a staple of my games and servers, making them incredibly important to me and the communities I create: Respect: Respect and kindness are our top-tier loot here. No discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, or any other real-life attribute. Let's keep the game fun for everyone and build a diverse and inclusive party of players. Any behavior that goes against this will result in a swift banhammer. Cooperation: Let's make this adventure a true ensemble performance! Share the spotlight, invite others to shine, and respect each character's moment. No solo acts here—think of it like jazz, where everyone gets their chance to improvise. Be mindful of each other's strengths, build on them, and don't be afraid to pass the narrative baton. Interrupting others' roleplaying? That's a critical fail. Let's weave this story together and make it an epic collaboration! Open Door: The GM's door is always ajar! If you've got questions, concerns, or just want to chat about the game, hit me up anytime. I'm here to keep the adventure smooth and fair. In case of in-game disputes, consider me the neutral NPC referee. My goal is to mediate before we roll for resolutions. Creating a safe and enjoyable space is the critical hit here, and you're always welcome to knock on my virtual door for a chat or clarification. Let's keep the lines of communication critical! (Pun Intended). If you'd like to know more or hire me to run a game for you, please don't hesitate to reach out. I'm always happy to offer a free consultation call to see if we'd be a fit. Wigs

Creating your character
Character creation will be done during session 0, with the group building the party, the relationships and friendships, and the history together
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need a discord account to access the discord server, where lore materials are held and the group can discuss/socialise between sessions. I use Foundry VTT so when you are signed up, I will set you up with access and everyone can build your characters in session 0.
What Rich brings to the table
Players can expect a narrative and roleplay driven experience with puzzles and combat secondary, yet integral, to the development of overall themes. Echoes focuses on adventurers as characters first and foremost so players will have the opportunity to explore the city, to play in the sandbox world. Maybe you'll accept a bounty to hunt a dangerous monster in the wildcity? Or investigate a spate of murders in Underhaven? The choice is that of you, the players. I utilise character voices and ambient music, through a discord bot. Combat is less intense, unless its a BBEG, and I also try to add in other objectives rather than just "slay bad guys" I'm a big fan of the Rule of Cool where possible, making a call based on what you are intending to do. This is a game about heroes forging community and inspiring hope, cool is the name of the game.
Homebrew rules
- Drinking a potion is a bonus action. - Spell points instead of Spell slots - How Legends Are Made: The world of Threads of Fate is brimming with fantastical wonders and perilous dangers. In such a world, heroes are more than mere mortals; they are individuals capable of displaying flashes of brilliance far beyond the ken of their peers. This rule embodies the extraordinary actions that define legendary figures. Once per long rest, you may choose to take two levels of exhaustion to perform a legendary action. This allows you to: Automatically score a critical hit on an attack roll., Automatically roll a natural 20 on an ability check or saving throw, including death saving throws., If you choose to score a critical hit using this feature, you do not roll for damage. Instead, you deal the maximum damage possible for that critical hit. - Modified Critical Hits: Critical hits will automatically deal maximum damage. No more rolling for it. This will apply to both players and enemies. - Take 10: If your character has at least ten minutes to perform a task they are proficient in, you may use your passive score for that skill instead of rolling.

How Rich creates a safe table
With regards to safety tools, I operate on a direct message (or group chat) identification of concerns and call this the Call-X, Call-N or Call-O method: rather than cards, a player can type either of these into the chat and no questions will be asked as to the reasons. I will simply change, rewind, or skip the aforementioned content in the case of a Call-X, or change or fade to black in the case of a Call-N.
