About the adventure

Starting in foggy 1920s London, the investigators are drawn into the hunt for a set of artefacts that have been dispersed across Europe in times gone by. Can they reassemble the pieces before a grisly cult can use them to summon something from beyond? This epic campaign is based on the award winning original 1991 Boxed set renowned for its high casualty rate, great handouts and satisfyingly lengthy runtime. This game is perfect for newcomers to Call of Cthulhu and old-skool Lovecraft experts alike. The system is very easy to pick up and the setting is simply Europe 100 years ago. Although the game is set in Europe, there is no reason why your investigator couldn't be from anywhere in the world, from the Americas to the Antipodes.

About me

Hi! I'm Chris from the UK. I am an educator who loves TTRPGs and see them as a good way to develop all sorts of skills in young (and not so young) people. Problem solving, understanding probabilities, developing empathy, learning to improvise, overcoming social anxiety and all sorts of other abilities come into play in every game - and you get to learn and develop them while having fun and telling great stories together. I started off back in the day (early 90s) with games like Paranoia, Call of Cthulhu and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, but since my kids have been old enough, Dungeons and Dragons has become my main jam. I've G and DMed many sessions both online and around a table and my main obsession is that every character has their own story to tell as well as the plot of whatever game we're playing, whether it's a one shot or an extended campaign. I love playing published material with all the shiny resources available (I use Roll20, DNDBeyond and Syrinscape a lot) but I'm also very happy homebrewing, worldbuilding and running original scenarios and campaigns.

Character creation

Creating your character

We'll want a party that covers all the bases and key skills, so character creation should be collaborative. It will happen either online asynchronously through the discord server, or in brief one-to-one meetings with the Keeper.

The current party

4-6 investigators who start the campaign in London, but can be from anywhere in the world.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You need to be on Roll20 and Discord.

What Chris brings to the table

I use professionally designed assets for maps and handouts, and the campaign-specific soundsets from Syrinscape to provide music, sound effects and ambiance. If you are new to the game, I will unobstrusively coach you on how to do things each time they come up. There are no silly questions. My games are a good time! I love to characterise NPCs in memorable ways. I like to have a joke and some banter without ever descending into farce or being disrespectful. Each character will have their own back story that I will try to work into the ongoing plot of the game, so each players gets to star in their own story arc. I am a big fan of the Rule of Cool and am very happy to ad-lib rules for the edge cases that the rules don't quite cover.

Safety

How Chris creates a safe table

1. Monte Cook consent checklist, so I know how to plan around anyone's amber/red flags 2. Session 0 to cover table and conduct rules and expectations. 3. Open Door policy while playing 4. Aftercare - check in via discord if anything difficult arose in a session.
