About the adventure
Cutting across Pennsylvania all the way down to Georgia, the Appalachian Mountains form a scar that was old even when the dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Here in the shadows of the tall trees and ancient stones, legends slumber. The veil wears thin. And everyone who calls this wilderness home knows better than to wander off the trails or be caught outside alone at night. But you are not like everyone else. Where others fear that which dwells in the dark, you are the one who seeks the dark. You are the one who stalks that which would stalk your fellow human. Whether it be for vengeance, for knowledge, or a chance to boast that you were the one to kill it, you have chosen to not be prey. You are a Hunter. In Trophy Hunters, you are a member of a band of Hunters traveling through the untamed wilderness of the Appalachians; searching for the legendary cryptids that stalk the darkest corners of the forests. Whether it be the Vampire Clans of Pittsburgh, or the mysterious No-Deer, there is no limit to the number of supernatural beasties that need to be brought down to make the world a safer place. Explore the legends and myths of North America's most mysterious wilderness, and carve your own legacy onto the ancient stones and trees around you. Whether you end up the victor or some creature's lunch is up to you. Trophy Hunters is intended as a Beginner-friendly game; introducing people not only to the legends of Appalachia but also the concept of Hunter the Reckoning. Here you will learn the ins and outs of how to hunt - and how preparation, study and reconnaissance are as vital as the weapons you choose. Be careful, for some legends are only half-truths and ill-remembered hearsay. Learning the truth will mean getting your hands dirty. If you are a fan of Supernatural, Hunter the Parenting, and urban legends, this will be a game that scratches those very centers of your think-pan!

About me
A humble player of rpgs who has been behind and in front of the screen consistently for over two decades, I am a lover of all editions of D&D, Pathfinder, Shadowrun and WoD. Experience in running 3.5, 4th and 5th edition D&D, Shadowrun, various WoD and CoD campaigns and games both independent and obscure. My games run from simple, heartfelt adventures to deep social dramas and good old-fashioned dungeon diving!

Creating your character
Once enough Hunters have assembled, we will have a Session Zero for shared character creation on Realms of Darkness - our character sheet holder and resident dice bot! In addition to the character sheet and dice bot, a pdf copy of the Hunter rulebook will be available for all to use. During Session Zero, we will also be discussing Lines and Veils, as well as what the players are hoping to get out of the experience.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players are expected to have accounts on Discord and access to the internet and a mic. Whilst I will be on camera for the game, cameras are optional for the players.
What Chris brings to the table
In terms of materials, I will provide the core rulebook, character sheets, and a dice bot for us to use in our excursions. As for myself, I bring twenty years of Storytelling and Game Mastering experience to the table. My focus as a Storyteller is to serve as your guide: to set the stage and lead you down the rabbit holes. The style I have honed is very player-forward: you are the ones commanding the action. There will be times when I ask how your character is feeling: to play Devil's Advocate and explore the thoughts and emotions behind your character's decisions and the anticipation they feel in the moment of the hunt. As this chronicle is set in the Appalachians, my goal is to emphasize how isolated your characters will be. Your cell will be plunging deep into the wilderness; traveling down trails forgotten by time and seeking local legends best left on their own. There will be moments of dread, but also absurdity. I am a big believer in the Rule of Cool: if there is something you want to attempt, and it sounds awesome (and plausible) enough, there is a very good chance that you can roll for it. And how those dice land, is how we play it out. My games are LGBTQIA+ friendly, and I foster a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone should feel free to be themselves.
Homebrew rules
The only homebrew rule I employ is Achievements: If you do something awesome once per session, you will gain an extra Experience Point in the form of an Achievement declaring your job well done. Achievements are awarded through the completion of a task, making a particularly difficult roll, throwing your character out there, or doing something that just brings a smile to my face.

Safety
How Chris creates a safe table
Players will be provided a link to a Lines and Veils pdf, which is to be filled out and submitted prior to Session Zero. During Session Zero, the players and I will go over their established Lines and Veils, as well as discuss other subjects which may be taboo which weren't present on the sheet or were thought of later. During our sessions, we will take a break halfway through so that I may touch base with the players and make sure they are still comfortable and having fun. Whenever there is a heavy scene or someone asks for a scene to stop, we will also employ these breaks to make sure everyone is okay. Each session will also end with a brief discussion on what the players liked, how they feel the game is going, and any concerns they would like to address. My DMs will also be open for players to discuss their concerns in confidence. Over the course of play, players will be asked to submit their X, N and O's to me through DM to maintain their confidentiality.
