About the adventure

"Somewhere, lost in the shrouded realms of death, lies a land of endless night where long-forgotten horrors are revealed to those who travel through the mist. There, in a crooked house lives a Crooked Man with a crooked grin. He raises crooked arms to a Crooked Tree at the edge of midnight and hears the whispers of the Old Ones. They speak of a beast that stalks the darkest woods and darkest hearts, a crown of horns upon its head. If you lose your way and feel a warm breath that chills you to the bone, run. Follow the songs of harvest time, and before long, you’ll find revelry in the dancing shadows of blazing wicker. No matter your story, these lonesome, misty rails will deliver you to where the hallowed cannot save you. Now is the time to brave the dark wood, beware the witching hour, and weave your own dreadful folktale underneath the Crooked Moon." An unforgettable setting, with brand new horror-themed species and classes to play from the team behind Legends of Avantris!

About me

I'm an experienced GM who's been telling stories since 1995; and telling them in the form of TTRPGs since 2010. I always wanted to write for a living and I kept hearing about D&D; these mythical games where the goal was slaying monsters, saving the world and above all weaving a legendary tale with friends, but it took me over a decade to find an actual table to join. When I heard about Startplaying I couldn't wait to sign up and make these games that I love accessible to everyone that wants to play. If you (like I once was) are a beginner who's always wanted to play but never had a table to join; or if you're an old hat who can't squeeze enough games in (like I am now), there's a place for you at my table.

Character creation

Creating your character

As soon as you join you'll get access to my compendium where you can choose from classic D&D character options as well as new folk-horror inspired classes and species specific to the setting. I'll go through character creation in session 0 but if you're eager: we'll start at level 1, any method of stat generation is fine, point buy, standard array or rolling for stats. (If you choose the latter you'll need to roll for stats in roll20 or discord though). We're using 2024 rules.

The current party

So far we have a jinxcraft rogue, a warlock of the hungering ones and a bog born path of the experiment Barbarian

What to expect

Preparing for the session

All you need to have is a mic, a good internet connection, discord and roll20. If you don't have Roll20 I can talk you through setting up a free account over Discord.

What Aidan's Adventures brings to the table

You gain access to every D&D book I own on Roll20, I make custom maps using Inkarnate and provide atmospheric soundscapes and music for the adventure through discord.

Homebrew rules

We use Perkins crits at my table (automatic max damage on the bonus critical die) and a homebrew rule for healing potions that allows you to get max healing if you use your action to drink the potion and roll for it if you drink it as a bonus action.

Safety

How Aidan's Adventures creates a safe table

We will go over safety rules in session 0 but if you message me any hard no's (lines) or soft no's (veils) before the game I will take those into account. I also use digital X,N and O cards so you can anonymously call for a break or to skip a scene that is causing you discomfort no questions asked.
