About the adventure
You are on a simple job to make a delivery of mining equipment for your friend Gundran Rockseeker, but things quickly take a turn for the worse. It will be up to you to find your friend, uncover the plot around the mysterious Mines of Phandelver, and help the people of Phandalin in this time of danger. ๐ช๐ต๐ฎ๐ you can expect! Your party will find themselves in the rustic frontier town of Phandalin. Danger lies not only in the mountains and forests, but also in the town itself, as banditry has been on the rise in the region. Pick up the odd job and explore the region, helping your allies and thwarting your enemies while discovering lore throughout the region. And did I mentions dragons?? This adventure is a classic touchstone for many players and DMs who first started the hobby with 5th edition. Get in on the action and get ready to roll some dice!

About me
Hi, Iโm Matthew! Iโve been running D&D since 2018 and specialize in creating welcoming, story-driven games where players feel comfortable jumping in and contributing right away. As a teacher, Iโve introduced dozens of players to D&D and focus on making the game easy to learn while still engaging for experienced players. My tables are beginner-friendly, supportive, and designed to help everyone feel confident roleplaying and making meaningful choices. I run a mix of published campaigns and custom adventures, with a balance of roleplay, combat, and player-driven storytelling. I aim to build consistent groups where players can relax, have fun, and create memorable moments together each week. If youโre looking for a reliable game with a friendly group and a DM who will help you get the most out of your character, youโll fit right in.

Creating your character
We will have a one hour session zero before starting the campaign. We will be using all official rules for 2024 as far as class and race. No hard decisions need to be finalized until level 2, so feel free to change your backstory, race, or even class until then. Help yourself to a common magic item. I also ask that you think of several "knives" for session 1 (during the one hour session zero) and aim for a total of around 6 or 7 knives by level 2. Info on backstory knives: https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/comments/775caq/my_friends_and_i_have_something_called_knife/

What Matthew brings to the table
I will have distinct voices for NPCs, prepare maps and props for the session, cover recaps, play background exploration, social, and combat music. I am a rule of cool GM if the Rules as Intended get in the was of us having a good time. Your choices will shape the game, and you also have the ability to canonize things. Anything from "how do you want to do this?" when you get a big kill, or a "what does your nat 1 check manifest when you are trying to seduce the guard as a distraction?"

How Matthew creates a safe table
We will have a session zero to go over any lines or potential problems in the campaign. The session can be stopped at any time if there is anything distressing, or might become distressing if we continue on the path we are on. I can change the details of a scene at any time to keep everyone comfortable.
