About the adventure

Our story begins long ago in the Year of the Bow, 1354 DR, when the Archangel Zariel led the riders of Elturel on a glorious mounted charge through the gates of Avernus. Courageously, they battled the infernal legions, but the horrors of the Hells became too much for them, and Zariel and her army were defeated. Those few that survived to return home established a new paladin order known as the Hellriders. 90 years later, in 1444 DR, the city was beset by undead, and it was revealed that High Rider Ikaia, leader of the Hellriders, had been turned into a vampire during one of her expeditions. She now terrorised the city every night with her vampire spawn, charmed minions, and undead allies. Then, one night so devastating it felt like the end. A second sun appeared in the sky, turning night into day, and blasting the vampire lord and her spawn to ashes while the remaining undead cowered from its light. Elturel had been liberated, and the high priest of Torm, Thavius Kreeg, claimed it was a gift from the gods and took credit for its appearance. This second sun came to be known as The Companion and provided the city with unending day and holy blessings. Thavius Kreeg, now heralded as the saviour of Elturel, became the city’s High Observer and implemented several changes to the doctrines of the city such that The Companion would be the center of their faith as a gift from not one single god but many. Your part in this begins in the Year of Three Ships Sailing, 1492 DR, during a diplomatic mission sent from Baldur’s Gate. You will start as a mercenary or knight in the employ of either the Hellriders of Elturel, the Flaming Fist of Baldur’s Gate, or the druid order of the Emerald Enclave. You are tasked with investigating rumours of cult activity in the woods nearby, but what you will uncover there is a diabolical conspiracy, the beginnings of an infernal affair.

Hi, I'm Arcanus (...snicker), yes, I know, but it's supposed to be Latin for secret and the root word for arcane. However, you can call me Dylan: nerd extraordinaire and aspiring pro-GM. My first introduction to D&D was PC game classics (BG1, IWD, NWN) and then in 2018, my younger brother and friends wanted to play tabletop D&D (following the hype of Stranger Things), so I GMed my first session for them. Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will occur during session 0, but players are encouraged to ask questions and request assistance if they wish to create characters tied to the story. Characters will be made on D&D Beyond using Point Buy. Players can request homebrew and 3rd party products, but I will need to review them before they can be used.

What Arcanus Games brings to the table

I have a Discord server and have an in-depth knowledge of how to run games on Fantasy Grounds VTT. I have access to a Master Tier subscription on D&D Beyond and can offer access to comprehensive character creation. I have a library of D&D books on D&D Beyond and Fantasy Grounds. My campaigns use custom maps and tokens to help facilitate immersive online play. I utilize Kenku to play music through Discord. My GM style is very narrative, and I love bringing NPCs to life with voices and mannerisms. I like giving my players a challenge both in combat and with social/exploration encounters.

How Arcanus Games creates a safe table
