About the adventure

Set before the Dominion War (2371), this mini-campaign runs for 3–4 sessions and can continue into a longer campaign if the group wishes. The game is beginner-friendly and designed as an inclusive, welcoming table. Players take on the roles of the crew of the USS Tereshkova, exploring strange new worlds in the spirit of classic Star Trek adventures. Roleplaying, diplomacy, and creative problem-solving are encouraged, with social, scientific, and technical skills often taking center stage. Combat is possible, but ingenuity and collaboration are usually the best tools for success. Pre-generated characters are provided, including one highly experienced officer alongside capable specialists. I’m happy to adjust the pregens, and after the first session you may rebuild your character if desired while keeping any experience earned. Expect: * Exploration and discovery * Roleplay-driven storytelling * Ensemble crew dynamics * Cinematic, theater-of-the-mind play * Rule-of-cool flexibility Join the crew and explore strange new worlds!

About me

I specialize in cinematic, character-driven games, with nearly 30 years of experience as a player and GM. My other occupations include comic book writing, journalism, and hosting a pop culture podcast for over 20 years — these skills help me build memorable adventures, interesting NPCs, and immersive worlds. I love science fiction, superheroes, and rich worldbuilding, and I focus on collaborative storytelling where player choices shape the story. My tables welcome both new and experienced players, with an emphasis on fun, pacing, and meaningful character moments.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters are pre-generated and start at beginner level, with one experienced officer in the crew. I’m happy to tweak any pregen to better fit your ideas. After the first session, if your character doesn’t feel like the right fit, I can help you rebuild them—and you’ll keep all experience earned so far.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Discord is used for voice chat (cameras optional) and for sharing visual aids during the session. I’ll also provide a brief safety and consent form to complete beforehand, helping ensure a comfortable experience for everyone.

What MaGnUs brings to the table

With a strong knowledge of the Star Trek universe, I aim to create an immersive experience that feels like you’re stepping into an episode of the show—without overwhelming you with lore. I prioritize the “rule of cool,” because the goal is always fun, cinematic storytelling at the table.

Homebrew rules

I run a streamlined version of the D6 (Revised & Expanded) system, shaped through years of play to better support fast, cinematic action and player creativity. The main adjustment is in how combat actions are paced, helping scenes stay exciting and easy to follow. If you know the system, I’m happy to go into the specifics.

Safety

How MaGnUs creates a safe table

Player comfort and safety are important to me. Before the session, I’ll share the consent checklist developed by Monte Cook so everyone can indicate preferences and boundaries. I also use X/N/O cards during play, allowing players to quickly signal if they want to pause, adjust, or skip content.
