About the adventure

Welcome to Madriport, a crowded island city of docks, alleyways, lantern-lit streets and dark canals. Trade keeps the city alive, but hunger, crime, and corruption thrive in the shadows. You are members of an adventurers guild hired to assist the Guard Captain of the 12th Ward, a struggling district known as the Bread Slums. This is a gritty urban fantasy campaign focused on life in a living city. Instead of dungeon crawling, you’ll patrol streets, investigate crimes, mediate disputes, confront gangs, and decide how the law should be applied when laws alone aren’t enough. The Bread Slums are poor but proud and for better or worse the people will remember how you treat them. The game emphasizes roleplay and moral choices. Combat happens, and when it does it matters, but violence always carries consequences. Expect to encounter recurring NPCs, to take part in the worldbuilding, and an adventure shaped by your decisions. This campaign is new-player friendly. Rules will be explained as we play, questions are encouraged, and the focus is on telling a great story together rather than perfect rules mastery. Whether you’re brand new to Daggerheart or an experienced player looking for a slow burn, city-focused game, Madriport offers a place to belong, if you’re willing to stand watch in its streets.

About me

I’ve been playing D&D since the late 80s and GM-ing since the early 90s, and ever since, tabletop games have been my favorite way to spend time with people. D&D has been my go-to game for decades, but I’ve also played and run a bunch of other systems, including RuneQuest, Call of Cthulhu, Pathfinder, and Savage Worlds. And I love what each one brings to the table. Recently, I was introduced to Daggerheart, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite systems to run because it supports the kind of games I love, heroic stories with a sharp edge of horror, and lots of roleplay. My tables tend to be character-driven and NPC-rich, with big choices, strong worldbuilding, and fair, consistent rulings that help keep the game moving. I’m also very beginner-friendly and inclusive. I want players to feel welcome, supported, and excited to jump in, whether it’s their first session or their hundredth. At the end of the day, I see TTRPGs as a way to build a story together, and I hope I help to make it fun and memorable.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will utilize Demiplane to create first-level characters. There will be a Discord thread to talk about characters as a group. Session Zero will include the use of Demiplanes Deck of Player Safety, followed by finalizing characters. Including Backgrounds and Connections.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need Discord and a Demiplane account. Once you have joined the game, I will send you a link to the Discord group.

What Coley YeOldeGM brings to the table

I’ll bring a world that feels alive, engaging NPCs and stories with twists, tension, and big heroic moments. My games are roleplay-heavy and character-driven, and we’ll build the world together as we play. Your choices and backstories help shape the world. I use Rules as Written as a baseline, but Rule of Cool usually wins out when it makes the moment better. Combat is cinematic, mostly theater of the mind, with maps and tokens to help set the stage when needed. I’m beginner friendly, and I use The Deck of Player Safety to help keep the table comfortable and fun for everyone.

Homebrew rules

No homebrew rules to start but if we feel like something is needed we will discuss it as a group.

How Coley YeOldeGM creates a safe table
