About the adventure

"This frontier town stands on the bones of a fallen age. Once a thriving settlement bound by friendship between humans, dwarves, firbolgs, and halflings, it was swept away centuries ago by an orc horde and left to rot beneath moss and ruin. Now, pioneers from big cities have returned, carving homes and hope from the wild frontier. Farmers, miners, and wanderers seek fortune in the shadow of the mountains; yet their fragile peace is doomed to crack. A white dragon has descended from the north, bringing with it an unnatural winter that threatens to bury the land once more. Frost claims the forests, ice seals the mines, and the people’s hard-won dreams teeter on the edge of extinction." Step into a world of limitless possibilities with this homebrew upgraded version of the sandbox-style adventure from the Dungeons & Dragons 5e Starter Set. Whether you're a newcomer eager to discover the magic of D&D or a seasoned veteran ready for a new challenge, this campaign offers something for everyone. Media Touchstones: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (2011), Banner Saga (2014), The Revenant (2015), Red Dead Redemption II (2018) What Awaits You: - Exciting Exploration: Traverse diverse and treacherous terrains and uncover hidden secrets and ancient mysteries. - Thrilling Combat: Engage in dynamic battles against fearsome foes, from marauding goblins to the majestic and deadly white dragon. - Immersive Roleplay: Craft your own story, build deep connections with your party, and influence the world around you with your decisions. About me

Well met, adventurers! My name is Dan and I'm a professional Game Master and educator. I've been rolling dice since D&D 3rd Edition and I've been GMing regularly for about 6 years now. I started GMing professionally in May 2022. Now I run private games/campaigns, corporate functions, events, birthday parties, and TTRPG nights at hobby stores and boardgame cafes. I'm represented in New Zealand by Questbook. When I'm not rolling dice, I'm painting miniatures and working as a Film School teacher. I'm originally from Brazil but I'm based in Zealand (NZST, UTC+13).

Character creation

Creating your character

During our free Session 0, we will discuss aspects of our world that will directly affect character creation. Part of the homebrew upgrade done on this campaign puts more weight on specific species, and prompts players to collectivelly participate on the world building. After our collective complementary Session 0, I will schedule individual calls with each player on Discord to discuss character creation. We will talk about your character's past, their "wants" and their "needs". These calls are individual so we can discuss your character's secrets and keep them from the other players so we can always keep the element of surprise when your backstory comes into play. During this call, I will also guide you through creating your character with D&D Beyond whilst sharing my screen. The character creation rules are: - Characters Start at Level 1. - All character Species are allowed, with exception to the ones marked as Legacy. Keep in mind some would be more prominent in our campaign setting. - Ablities Scores can be defined through Standard Array, or rolled live during our individual character creation call. If you wish to roll your stats, I have safety measures to ensure you don't end up with a lot of negative modifiers.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Games and calls will take place over Discord and D&D Beyond. You will need a microphone and a stable internet connection for the games. Using a webcam is optional, but encouraged. Please ensure you have Discord downloaded on your computer and that you have an account as well. Character creation and campaign management will be through D&D Beyond. You don't need a paid account to play, but you do need to create an account for D&D Beyond to access the campaign content, manage your character, and play the game.

What Daniel (D&Dan) brings to the table

As a GM, I tend to run character-focused stories that higlights player experience. As a player, your voice will always matter to me and to our story. My campaigns are fun, light-hearted, engaging, and immersive. You can expect NPCs with unique voices, challenging encounters, memorable RP moments, over-the-top action, and an epic tale told by all of us (and our pesky fate rocks, the dice). I run my games 100% on D&D Beyond and D&D Beyond Maps, using Discord for calls & communication. Upon joining, you will have access to all content in my library, which will provide you with plenty of options for character creation and customisation. I'm also open to discuss simple homebrewing options ahead of time.

Homebrew rules

Bonus Action Potions: Any potion can be drank as a Bonus Action. If you administering the potion on someone else, then it takes an Action to do so. Critical Hits Improved: Roll 1 dice and add its maximum damage to the roll. Example, a Crit with a short bow Deals 1d6+6 Damage. It does not apply against PCs whilst they’re Level 1. That also applies to Cantrips but not levelled spells. Lingering Injuries: Triggered when you fall down to 0 HP but is not killed outright. You can use your reaction to expend 1 Hit Die to regain HP. You immediately gain 1 point of Exhaustion and must make a Con Save DC against the damage that brought you down to 0 HP. If you fail, you roll on the Lingering Injuries table. Called Shot: If you have Advantage on an Attack Roll against a damaged enemy, you can do a Called Shot. You roll your attack at Disadvantage then, and if you hit, you can pick one out of the first 3 effects on the associated Lingering Injuries table to inflict on your opponent. Mercer’s Rules of Resurrection: Not all those who die are fully gone. Anyone can attempt to bring someone back with a Skill Challenge. The Challenge runs for 3 Successes and/or 3 Fails, whichever happens first. The starting DC is 10 and gets a +2 increase for every time the character has died already.

Safety

How Daniel (D&Dan) creates a safe table

At the heart of every great adventure is a commitment to health, safety, and wellbeing. I am dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where every player feels welcome and valued. We will kick off our campaign with a complimentary Session 0, where we will discuss and implement essential safety tools. This session ensures that everyone's needs and boundaries are respected, creating a secure and supportive atmosphere for our journey ahead. Aftwards, a live document will be shared with everyone (through Google Drive) detailing everything that was discussed for all players to check whenever required.
