About the adventure

The land of Visteria is changing. The age of knights and castles is long gone, condemned to history by an apocalyptic war between demons and devils. From the ashes of this sundered land, in the century since the great armies fell silent, a new era has dawned - one written in the dust of coal and gunpowder, the slick of black oil pulled screaming from the earth, and the mad rush for gold in the mountains. You find yourself in the midst of this, out in the Wild Frontier, far from Visteria's shining capital, the city of Leone. Out here, the land is harsh and unforgiving, the law rides slowly, and justice is often served at the end of a barrel. Desperate prospectors, powerful rail barons, and ruthless mercenaries gamble everything in the saloons of boomtowns that rise overnight and disappear just as quickly when the mines run dry. Ancient horrors claim the blackened mesas, unsettling magic lingers beneath the desert sand, and Mist animates the dead from their graves. You and your company are one of many seeking fortune and adventure away from the comforts of home. Do you have what it takes to survive the Wild Frontier and ride into legend? Or will your story end six feet under? Draw your card, partner, and let's see how lucky you really are.

About me

Hi! I'm Ryan (he/him), I'm 33 years old, and I've been playing and GMing TTRPGs for over a decade now. While I cut my teeth on D&D 5e and it remains my favorite, I've also made my way into other systems, including but not limited to: - Vampire: the Masquerade (V5 and V20) - Hunter: the Reckoning (H5) - Call of Cthulhu I'm a strong believer in the "rule of cool" and story over rules, and I make it my aim to make sure that all of my games are accessible and welcoming to everyone, especially LGBTQ+ folks, BIPOC, and women. Above all, I know that we're all here to have fun, so that is my main priority in any game. I encourage any of my players to talk to me if something is not to their liking, and I will do my best to ensure we work out a solution. I look forward to playing with you!

Character creation

Creating your character

Players will start at Level 1, and we'll be using Point Buy or Standard Array (your choice) to determine stats. Characters will be created together as a group during Session 0, so bring a few character concepts to the table. All officially published Wizards of the Coast 5th Edition material is okay to use, with the exceptions of Spelljammer and Strixhaven. All Critical Role material is also okay to use. I do not allow homebrew or other 3rd party materials (Humblewood, Acquisitions Inc., etc.), just for the sake of keeping everything balanced.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will be using Discord for voice chat, and Roll20 for dice rolls and maps. Please make sure you have an account with both of these services. Please have a decent, working microphone/headset. Please come to session zero with an idea of the type of character you would like to play. Bringing character art is highly encouraged, but not necessary. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Are you new to Start Playing? What Ryan brings to the table

I will provide any pdfs of source books we may need. I can also provide you with a character token or art if you need it. I also enjoy doing character voices and weaving player characters' backstories into the game.
