About the adventure

This game is for those looking for some escapism. It is a light hearted chance to have as much role play as you'd like. How much combat really depends on the players play style. There are clear objectives and a clear danger. The total length will be around 3-5 sessions of about 3-4 hours in length, again depending on play style. Great for new players. This is taking place in the forgotten realms but does not rely on any dnd lore or previous knowledge. The town and NPC's are all home brewed. Games are run typically using the rules as intended although if at points the rule of cool makes sense, we will use it. I use all published, official dnd books. I do not typically allow for homebrew races, classes, magic items ect. Please reach out to me if you want to play an evil aligned character like the new Illrigger. We will use dnd beyond for character sheets, if I do not have the book to allow for your character please tell me during character creation. This is not designed to have a lot of character growth or incorporate a lot of your character backstory. The short length of the campaign doesn't really allow for a lot of character motivations, internal struggles, or difficult decisions. This is meant to pop in, roll some dice, share some laughs, and maybe kill some monsters.

About me

My first ever character was a dwarf totem barbarian who would take his pants off for fights because I did not understand unarmored defense.....and my barbarian really loved to fight, but that isn't the point. I do not take most things very seriously and believe that dnd should be the same. I love the fun, lighthearted escape from reality that sitting across the virtual table provides. Really my goals are to have a few good laughs, and maybe roll some death saves? Must have: Dnd beyond with the Beyond20 chrome extension Roll20 Discord

Character creation

Creating your character

I will send a dnd beyond link, character creation should be made there. Stats will be either manual array or point buy. If this is your first time making a character, I will most certain help you out. We will use all published core dnd books, I typically do not allow for homebrew or playtest material. If you cannot find the race or sub class for what you are wanting play let me know and I will do my best to get it for you.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

My goal is to provide you the best possible time. However, in order for me to do this effectively, I need you to have a computer, and accounts to discord, roll20, and dnd beyond.

What Kevin brings to the table

I do my best to perform character voices. I am not a world famous DM, I am not a voice actor, and I will never try to be. However, I will do the best I can to voice characters in such a way you will know who you are talking to and given some clues into what that character is like. You do not have to do character voices for your character but it is highly encouraged. I will do my best to have dynamic lighting giving visual clues to what the overall atmosphere is of any interaction. I don't typically play music as I personally find it too distracting. Generally I use the most common accepted rulings for things. I do not like to strain what spells do to make them do things never intended. I do allow rule of cool but it has to be something really really cool and just a one time thing. Generally speaking if there is a question about a rule, spell, effect, I will do my best to figure it out in the moment. Ultimately I will make a ruling and then move on. I will then look it up in the lead up to the next game and make any changes necessary moving forward. I do try very hard to give players the benefit of doubt, but remember, anything you can do, monsters and bad guys can also do.

Homebrew rules

I will leave this up to the players, but I do like death saving rolls to be whispered to me and not said out loud to the party. I feel like this gives a sense of urgency and more realistically conveys the confusion of battle. I will allow potions of healing to be drank in combat as a bonus action for the rolled healing amount. However, if you wish to use your action to drink a health potion in combat you can do so and receive the max healing amount. Any healing potion drank out of combat will be the rolled amount.

Safety

How Kevin creates a safe table

We will talk in session zero about things that you are not comfortable with. You can always send me a message in discord if we are going down a path you are not comfortable with. Anyone, for any reason, can call a time out and we can talk about things. My goal is to provide an atmosphere that is fun, safe, and welcoming for everyone.
