About the adventure
This game is designed specifically for new players, but more experienced players are welcome too. Expect a balanced mix of roleplay, exploration, and combat, with plenty of opportunities to be creative, take risks, and have fun. Our journey begins with a simple job: escort a wagon to the frontier town of Phandalin. But when something goes wrong on the road, you’ll be drawn into a mystery involving missing persons, dangerous bandits, and the legend of a long-lost mine filled with magical power. This is Lost Mine of Phandelver, one of the most beloved starter campaigns—perfect for learning the ropes while experiencing a full, satisfying story. I'll guide you through the process of making your characters into a balanced party and teach you the rules through play, and you can watch your novice adventurer become a true hero. We’ll play in short weekly sessions and by the end, you’ll not only understand how to play—you’ll have a character and story you can carry forward into future campaigns if you choose to continue.

About me
Hi! I'm Chris from the UK. I am an educator who loves TTRPGs and see them as a good way to develop all sorts of skills in young (and not so young) people. Problem solving, understanding probabilities, developing empathy, learning to improvise, overcoming social anxiety and all sorts of other abilities come into play in every game - and you get to learn and develop them while having fun and telling great stories together. I started off back in the day (early 90s) with games like Paranoia, Call of Cthulhu and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, but since my kids have been old enough, Dungeons and Dragons has become my main jam. I've G and DMed many sessions both online and around a table and my main obsession is that every character has their own story to tell as well as the plot of whatever game we're playing, whether it's a one shot or an extended campaign. I love playing published material with all the shiny resources available (I use Roll20, DNDBeyond and Syrinscape a lot) but I'm also very happy homebrewing, worldbuilding and running original scenarios and campaigns.

Creating your character
We'll make characters together - party balance is important. We'll stick to the options in the 2024 Players Guide, which will be available to you free-of-charge via content sharing on DNDBeyond.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need accounts on Discord, Roll20 and DNDBeyond. You will need to install the Beyond20 browser extension to allow your rolls from DNDBeyond to appear on Roll20.
What Chris brings to the table
I use professionally designed assets from Roll20 for maps and handouts, and the campaign-specific soundsets from Syrinscape to provide music, sound effects and ambiance. My games are a good time! I love to characterise NPCs in memorable ways. I like to have a joke and some banter without ever descending into farce or being disrespectful. Each character will have their own back story that I will try to work into the ongoing plot of the game, so each players gets to star in their own story arc. I am a big fan of the Rule of Cool and am very happy to ad-lib rules for the edge cases that the rules don't quite cover.

How Chris creates a safe table
Before the first session I ask each player to fill in a Monte Cook consent checklist. We will talk about triggers and how the Open Door system works during the first session. If anyone gets triggered or emotional during a session, I check in with them after the session via discord.
