About the adventure
For the 50th Anniversary of Dungeons and Dragons, Lego released a DnD themed building set that included a party of 5th level characters to run in an accompanying adventure. But how would those characters have been to play at the start of their careers? Join me in a game session that explores this idea by taking them into the Kobold's Lair dungeon from the official Heroes of the Borderlands set. The party has been expertly reversed engineered to 1st level and adapted to the 2024 rules. Now they are fully ready to answer the call when a wounded stranger from the Capital arrives at the Keep on the Borderlands looking for adventurers to "retrieve a rare and valuable bird's egg stolen by an unscrupulous band of Kobolds" . So whatta ya waiting for? LEGO have some fun! All experience levels are welcome from first timers to folks whose dice (virtual or otherwise) might have a “few miles” on them.

About me
Hiya! I have been forever GMing since I was a teenager and even after a career as a professional storyteller creating animations, video games, and comicbooks, it's running RPG's that still holds the strongest grip on my heart and creativity. I am all about player agency and providing a space for players to explore their imaginations, while never losing sight of the fact that this is a still a game and we are here to enjoy playing it. I regularly run games for everyone from fresh face kids to silver haired veterans. I can teach anyone who wants to learn and my games are always beginner friendly. I've run sessions in living rooms, game shops, convention halls, youth camps, and charity events. Online is but an extension of all that and I hope you will join me here on my next adventure, or rather, on our next adventure. Have Fun! Life is too short to do otherwise.

Creating your character
All characters and character sheets are pre-made and instructions will be given on how you can download and import them into the Owlbear Rodeo game session. Just choose from the characters available at the time as they are claimed on a first come/first served basis.
The party is comprised of pre-made 1st level characters that you choose from: a Dwarf Cleric, an Elf Wizard, a Gnome Fighter, and an Orc Rogue.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Welcome to the game! Here is a link to a pdf that shows you how to download a character, install it into the game session, and setup communication functions: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dJMiL9VoYA_PVveEtJ4qHIey8sXCTEBW/view?usp=drive_link Here's the link to game session: https://www.owlbear.rodeo/room/4i9SdldXmRBq/DMBryons%20Table-Kobold%20Lair Nothing else will be required. Easy-peasy lemon squeezy! This is the DMBryon Discord: https://discord.gg/4DZajby9yU. It's optional and it's not necessary to join or use it to play the game. All voice and text communication will be accessible within the Owlbear Rodeo session. However you are welcome to join the Discord for out of game communication, general information, details and schedules of past and future sessions, viewing and sharing custom art and character stuff, and all the normal things a Discord community is good for.
What DMBryon brings to the table
The characters might be pre-made, but player agency comes first. I'll bring my creativity, decades of DM experience, inconsistent voices, and a strong desire to have fun by simply enjoying the things you do during play. I'm a swell audience, so you bring whatever level of engagement you enjoy. The rules are a great and necessary framework, but inventiveness, imagination, and creativity will be far more important (and rewarding).
Homebrew rules
Initiative tracking is dead. Well, dead to me anyway. I do not use the traditional d20 initiative system. I use a d6 method that combines several approaches to foster faster combat, more opportunities to think and act outside the box, more engagement from all players even when it's technically not their turn, and a level of chaos that reflects the heat of battle as presented in a game environment. How this works will be made clearer once the session starts, but I think you'll find it fun. Additionally, we'll be using the "Perkins Crit" for natural 20 damage rolls.

How DMBryon creates a safe table
Players are encouraged to feel free to be whomever they are and whomever they wish to play. The gameplay itself barely gets PG-13 and a DMBryon table is a safe and welcoming space. I have a zero-tolerance for any kind of prejudice or disparaging behavior. I wear a big boot and I know how to use it. But… things happen. So in addition to being able to message me privately in game, there are built in safety cards accessible within the in-game chat that anyone can use without recrimination if things are becoming problematic or uncomfortable.
