About the adventure

⚔️ Enter a decaying land twisted by the madness and subsequent death of its gods. 🏹 Hunt the monsters that stalk the shadows of the land for fortune, fame, and survival. 🩸 Decide for yourself if stopping monsters justifies becoming a monster. (Session 0 runs for free, time slot and frequency negotiable by party) Whether by choice honorable, desperate, foolish, or ambitious you have elected to join a company of hunters that operate outside of the Empire's direct influence. You find yourself on a rickety wagon with your fellow recruits, traversing the dangerous roads at great speed to rendezvous with a caravan to Lumholm. The place where you'll be tested and sworn into the Order of Huntsmen. As Huntsmen, the characters will seek out creations and denizens of The Beast, study them, learn their secrets and destroy them lest the Empire fall. This is my take on the Grim Hollow setting of Etharis spun into a "monster of the week" type campaign that will gradually build up a greater overarching plot. The campaign starts at level 3 and will end either with The Beast abated or evil spreading beyond check, regardless of the level. I am using Dungeons and Dragons 5e with a few house rules and character creation restrictions to fit the setting, and additional options added per the Grim Hollow books. Each of the characters must have their own reason for agreeing to partake in one of the most dangerous organizations which anyone in Etharis could join, whether it's selfish or noble. The position the players are in should be firm enough that they will avoid PVP at least at the start as a bare minimum. And any overt PVP should be discussed and agreed upon OOC first. I operate alignment as a guideline more than hardline. The axis of being Lawful-Chaotic being willingness to obey the laws and work in their confines vs distain for the law and it's restrictions. The axis of Good-Evil being a scale of selflessness to selfishness. Both influenced by your ideals with bonds and flaws being that which either drives you to keep to such or is the exception in which you act against your alignment. I.E. a noble paladin that acts without mercy for 1 particular foe due to their past, and an assassin that could never strike down a child because they have a child at home.

About me

I am a long time D&D nerd. Played 3.5 since 2011, then started running 5e games as of 2016. Met my wife DMing. I enjoy narrative games, world-building/lore, high fantasy, and the occasional body horror. I am looking to run D&D 5e games as I have the most experience with this system and have made what I have been told are fun and interesting homebrew creations and rules for. I would also be interested in running SW 5e or VTM 5e at some future date.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will take place during a free session 0 via DND Beyond. The party will decide together whether to use point buy or roll for stats. Characters will start at level 3 and class and species options will be made available from the Grim Hollow books.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will require a free Discord account, a free DND Beyond account. If at all possible, it is best to know the rules of the base DND 5e game, but I am able to provide rules info as we play/as needed.

What Naturally1derous brings to the table

I have a Discord server set up with bots and a master account with DND Beyond and content sharing enabled for character creation and the DND Beyond maps for VTT. I also have ambient music available. No requirement to engage. This campaign is focused on tracking down various monsters and slaying them. As such RP, investigation, and puzzle solving will be used to track down the monster and tactical combat will ensue. At least that's how the more prepared hunts will go ;). Between hunts will allow RP and downtime activities like crafting (perhaps with monster parts). I stick mostly to RAW with exceptions for powerful moments and a few homebrew rules to keep things interesting that will be discussed during the free session 0. I expect players to come to me with any concerns or desires to be discussed. I can be contacted over Discord of course. I also expect players to be respectful of everyone's time and boundaries.

Homebrew rules

The party will vote yea or nay on several homebrew rules including healing potion consumption, guaranteed crit damage, flanking and surrounding, and narrative bending of the RAW.
