About the adventure
You’ve always pushed your luck in the Citadel, but this time, you’ve gone too far, and your privileged background won’t save you anymore. Rather than a death sentence, you’ve been shipped off to the Borderlands bootcamp. Mysteries await you in this untamed land. Where do you want to go? As you and your party adventure, you will face challenges, explore the wild, make friends (or maybe enemies?), and trade stories in Greyhawk's busy Keep on the Borderlands. Discover a rugged fantasy world and help to shape its fate, uncovering lost secrets and forging your own legend at the edge of civilization. This campaign adapts the most up-to-date official starter set for Dungeons and Dragons. The party will be made up exclusively of parents/guardians and teens, offering the chance to learn together while still playing with others. This is the ideal campaign for you if any of the below sound like you: - Have seen Dungeons and Dragons in media and thought it looked fun, but didn’t know where to start. - Would like to see if Dungeons and Dragons is a fit without investing time and money in equipment. - Have tried to run D&D at home and found it overly complicated. - Want to try something new together without leaving the house. - Are looking for things to do together that don’t require you to be in the same place. - Have played previous editions and would like to brush up your skills while introducing it to a loved one. - Would feel more confident trying a new social game with the support of someone else you trust. PLEASE NOTE: If signing up for this campaign, the adult of your duo should sign up using their account, and add their teen as an additional seat. This is to ensure everyone signs up as pairs.

About me
In school, my best friend and I used to roleplay our favourite characters by passing notes back and forth in study hall. Twenty years later, I’m still pretending to be other people for fun - but with a lot more structure and sophistication, I hope! I’m a gay mother of two from Ireland who really enjoys the extensive, co-operative worldbuilding and deep character development that TTRPG can facilitate. I am always my players biggest fan and love to be surprised by them. I have about a year of experience as a DM, primarily in 5e/2024.

Creating your character
Before session 0, you will be sent a very short primer on race and class types, as well as a character sheet template on D&D Beyond. Think about your character's appearance, personality and history as much as you like before you introduce them (and yourself!) to us.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Each player will need access to their own computer/laptop/tablet to play. All the tools we use are fully tablet friendly. Players should create a free account on D&D Beyond, as this is the platform we'll use for character sheets and maps. We will use Discord for voice and video. While I will share my video, you don't have to (though it is encouraged.) You should have a strong connection and a decent quality microphone - if we can't hear you, we can't play! I will send you a character template on D&D Beyond (as above) as well as a consent checklist (as below)
What Kitty brings to the table
As a teaching DM, I will introduce you to the world of D&D through introduction to the tools we use as players to build a world together. I will gently remind you of every step until you have it down. To make this the most fun experience, you can expect it to be roleplay heavy. I will play NPCs (the characters you will meet in the game) with big and memorable personalities, and you are encouraged to talk to them and each other in character as much as you feel comfortable. Now and again, I will ask you to make up and describe details of the world around you that we can integrate into the game, as a way to help you get used to collaborating at the table. I will use background music and noise (via KenkuFM) to set the scene, as well as limited visuals on Beyond. I encourage you to find the limits of the system - don't be held back by the actions on the sheet in front of you. Wherever the game allows it, I'll help you find a way to achieve whatever you want to do, as long as it doesn't affect the experiences of other players.
Homebrew rules
We will be playing by-the-book so that you can take your newfound skills forward with confidence into the next adventure you choose, whatever that might be.

How Kitty creates a safe table
We will be using a modified Monte Cook RPG consent checklist prior to session 1. While this beginner campaign is tame, player collaboration may take it briefly a different way. Because of this, it's important we are all on the same page. We will create a blacklist of topics and situations before the campaign begins. Where any of those topics appear in the game, I will steer away. This campaign is intended not to stray above a PG-13 rating. Players can anonymously call a 5 minute break at any time, no reason required, during a session. During those 5 minutes, I will stay present and contactable in case players need a chat to discuss their feelings and comfort levels.
