About me
I had the joy of being introduced to Dungeons & Dragons at age 14 while working my first job as an assistant in a comic bookstore. What was already a dream job for a young fanatic of nerd-dom became even better when a few of the other employees invited me to join their 2nd Edition campaign. I’ve been a fan of tabletop gaming ever since. Over the years, I’ve spent much of my time running long-term (longest being 6 years) campaigns for different groups of friends. While I have the most experience with Dungeons & Dragons, I’ve also had the pleasure of playing and running games in Pathfinder, Starfinder, Blades in the Dark, MASKS, Vampire: The Masquerade, and most recently Daggerheart. As a Game Master, my focus is on fostering a welcoming environment for collaborative gameplay and storytelling, led by the players and guided by the roll of the dice. I enjoy using the rules as written as a foundation while treating them as tools to help build the framework of an engaging adventure. With a strong understanding of different rules systems, I aim to guide players as they discover their preferred playstyle and help the group create a memorable shared experience. I’m excited about the opportunity to meet new players, no matter their experience level or background, and to start new adventures with people from all over the globe.

Creating your character
I am here just to help you make the exact kind of adventurer you want to play. When you join the game, we will have the chance to talk in detail about what you want to play. I am open to almost anything that makes sense in the adventure's setting. If any of the following terms are confusing, I truly enjoy helping new players understand the world of Tabletop gaming, and will walk you through the whole process. We will have a session zero to talk about all of these options in depth. However, if we get through our initial conversations, the session zero will morph into a session 0.5 and we will jump into the action! We will be using the rolling statistics method. If your rolled totals for all six stats are under 70, then you should reroll them. I don't want any new player to be too burdened with a tough to play character. We will be using the 2024 rules as a base. I am open to feats or subclasses from previous 5th edition materials, but they will need to be discussed. All Species and classes will be available to play. 3rd party materials are generally accepted, once they have been reviewed.

What James brings to the table
My GM style focuses on collaborative storytelling and player-driven adventures. I use the rules as a strong foundation, but treat them as tools that support creativity and fun at the table. I enjoy helping players find their preferred playstyle while building a welcoming and engaging environment for both new and experienced gamers. My goal is always to create memorable stories together, guided by character choices and the roll of the dice. I will be running all combats through the DND Beyond VTT. I will make sure to add music and ambiance to tactical combat and puzzle solving. I do voices for a lot of major NPCs, but I don't do them very well. It's quite fun for me to try and make every NPC distinct. I am more often to stick to Rules as Written, but will always listen to my players if they want to change something.

How James creates a safe table
Player comfort is key to every player experience. To facilitate this, you will be asked to fill out a Lines and Veils document. We will have a group session zero to go over any lines and veils that players have told me about anonymously. We won't proceed with the campaign until we all feel like we are on the same page. If during a session you start to feel uncomfortable, just message a stop, or announce one over voice, and I will stop the game. We can talk through the issue, time skip over it, or take a break until everyone is ready to keep the adventure going. I will also check in after every session to get the groups thoughts. You should always feel comfortable to reach out to me during, or in between, sessions to talk about the campaign.
