About the adventure

The era of humanity has come to an end. The modern world as you know it has been changed. Tokyo and the surrounding areas have been transformed into an apocalyptic wasteland: The Vortex World. In this place, demons of legend reign supreme, feasting on the life essence of anything they come across in an attempt to reforge the world in their image. All seems lost, but there is a small hope. There is you: someone with the will to struggle against this place. In the Vortex world, it is you and your allies who will fight to protect what you have left, and secure your own future. Whether you be Demon, Human, or something else entirely, Ginza is your new home. This once glamorous upmarket area has been transformed into an underground city, where creatures of all kinds live in an uneasy peace. Though this place is a sanctuary, there are still those that wish to claim it for themselves. Under the guidance of Nyx, you must protect the creatures of the underground and fight back against dark forces that threaten to create their own ideal world. Utilising a wide range of skills, identify and exploit the weaknesses of Demons to stay one step ahead. Stand tall and defend your home, Guardians of Ginza!

About me

Hi there! I'm Matt, and Ive been a tabletop fan and ForeverDM for over 10 years. I've played a wide variety of games, but mainly have experience with D&D 3.5 and 5th, Vampire The Masquerade 20th, and Daggerheart. Im always open to try something new, and I love to create interesting games and stories with others. Im influenced by a lot of Manga and Videogames and I love having a cinematic feel to my games. I believe in strong collaboration between everyone at the table, with my aim being that everyone feels comfortable, safe, and has a great time.

Character creation

Creating your character

Players will be able to pick from a selection of Pre-gen characters or make their own from scratch using the Tokyo Conception rulebook! Play as a Human, Demon, or Fiend, each with their own unique playstyle. Players will be starting from the recommended Beginner Starting levels - 10 for Fiends, 9 for Demons, 11 for Humans. Humans get access to a multitude of starting equipment and subclasses, which determines what skills and spells you can use. Fiends get access to a starter Magatama: a special item that grants you additional stats and allows you to unleash powerful abilities. All Demons, including ones you fight, are playable! Every Demon level 9 or lower is available as a starting character to play, with the possibility of fusion and growth further into the game. No need to own the book or know the rules beforehand, full onboarding will occur during session 0 and before game starts.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A Roll20 account will also need to be made to access the Virtual Table. Character sheets will be shared via PDF, so you will need a program that allows you to view and edit form-fillable PDF's.

What Matt brings to the table

Players can expect a number of exciting things from my DM Style: 1. Memorable NPCs and Great RP With my background in acting, I bring to life a wide range of different characters, all with their own voices, desires, and motivations. Whether its a cold and dangerous enemy or a bizarre but ever loveable Jack Frost, every character, improvised or written, is made with passion 2. Rich lore I am well versed in the world and lore of Shin Megami Tensei, the videogame that this system is based off. I am able to integrate it into a tabletop setting with great authenticity while also creating a new story centered around your characters. 3. Play characters Your Way I go to great lengths to make sure my players are completely satisfied with their characters and are able to flavour them how they wish. Character creation seems daunting, but it doesnt have to be. Whether its a pre-gen or built from scratch, im dedicated to making your character unique to you! 4.Cinematic Combat Over the years I have consistantly worked on bridging the gap between Narrative Play and Combat Rules, blending the two together to help create cinematic fights between PC's and adversaries. I believe that the rules should always enhance the story, not detract from it.

Homebrew rules

Combat during Tokyo Conception will have an added feature present in the videogame but absent in the tabletop ruleset. This system is the Press Turn system, where if players score a weakness or critical hit on an enemy, they are able to get an additional attack.

Safety

How Matt creates a safe table

During session 0, I will go over the themes that will be present during the story, letting players know what kind of possibly distressing material may be encountered. My games always have an Open Door policy, and my private DM's are always open if players wish to discuss their potential triggers. During game I also utilise the X,N and O system using both Roll20's chat function, discord voice call, as well as the X,N, O card deck addon included in Roll 20.
