About the adventure

In the heart of the Shattered Plains on the world of Roshar, life is a brutal cycle of wind and stone. The landscape is a jagged mosaic of plateaus and bottomless chasms, home to the monstrous chasmfiends and the relentless, screaming Highstorms. You are members of the Bridge Nine expedition. While the high princes seek glory, you are simply seeking survival, but a rumor of ancient treasure from the Age of Desolations hidden deep within the chasms has given your crew a desperate, flickering hope for a better life. This one-shot adventure is designed specifically for those who wish to dive straight into character-driven storytelling. No prior experience required! We will be using the new Cosmere RPG system, but you don't need to know a single rule or have read any of the books to play. This is a "learn-as-you-go" experience where the focus is on the grit, camaraderie, and the impossible choices made in the heat of the adventure. Whether you’re a seasoned roleplayer or a total newcomer, you'll find a seat at the table ready for you. To keep the momentum high and the story moving, I provide a diverse cast of pregenerated characters. Each comes with a unique history, a specific role within the bridge crew, and personal secrets that will come to light as the pressure of the plains mounts. We won't be spending hours on character sheets; instead, we’ll dive straight into the roleplay, focusing on how your crew interacts, survives, and pushes back against a world that wants to break them. Expect a session filled with high-stakes tension, cinematic action, and deep narrative payoffs.

About me

I'm a long-time D&D player and DM, and have recently started branching out into other systems. The Cosmere RPG in particular caught my attention as an interesting world to try out. DMing is primarily a hobby, and I have fun when my players have fun. That said, I also believe players have fun when they are challenged: my monsters are scary and know what they are doing. My NPCs have purposes, and the world will advance whether or not the PCs want it to. When I run a module, I heavily adapt it to the way I like to run the game.

Preparing for the session

We will use discord, so ensure you have a discord account set up and can join my server. We'll use the Owlbear Rodeo VTT.

What Andrew brings to the table

I provide everything you need to step directly into the boots of a bridgeman, scholar or warrior with the high-quality pregenerated characters with unique backstories and personal stakes for this scenario. You don't need to own the books or know the mechanics of the Cosmere RPG to thrive; I handle the rules and technicalities so the "crunch" never interrupts our story. Using a dedicated VTT and a curated ambient soundtrack, I create an immersive atmosphere where character voices and evocative descriptions bring the alien beauty of Roshar to life. My primary focus is "The Spotlight"—I actively manage the table’s energy to ensure every player, whether quiet or bold, has the space and time to define their character’s journey. This scenario leans heavily into narrative roleplaying and emotional tension. While the Stormlight Archive features epic battles, our story focuses on the grit of exploring the Shattered Plains. There is combat, but it is fast-paced and cinematic rather than a slow, tactical grind. As an introduction to the system, I embrace the "Rule of Cool" to reward creative thinking, ensuring that if you have a bold, dramatic idea, the dice will help you try it. You can expect a game that feels like a prestige drama: high stakes, deep brotherhood, and a low-barrier entry into a spectacular new system.

Homebrew rules

No homebrew at all, except that I don't really expect people to know the rules of this system yet, and will provide guidance and leeway with using it in this scenario

How Andrew creates a safe table

We'll use Lines and Veils, to be filled out in advance. We'll go over the basics in a very abbreviated "session 0" in the first 10 minutes of the game. During the game, we'll use Xs and Os, which you can DM me on discord to ensure everybody feels comfortable and has fun throughout the whole game.
