About the adventure

Hello Hello! This adventure here is designed for newcomers and veterans to Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition, taking you through three entire tiers of play. No doubt some or maybe most of you have heard of the Starter Set adventures Lost Mine of Phandelver and Dragon of Icespire Peak. Well, I have, through careful and maniacal wizardry, cobbled these two together into an epic tale that takes you from levels 1 to 14 (or beyond!). A classic D&D adventure in a well-beloved setting, you will fight countless hordes of monstrous and mythical creatures, from the lowliest goblin to the mightiest dragon! The challenges are varied through many points of resolution tailored for any approach in the name of fun! The Hook: You've lived your entire lives in Phandalin, a small village at a point between Neverwinter and Leilon, just north of the Mere of Dead Men. Life in the Triboar Trail is tough but fair, and each of you are integral to the village in your own specific way. You've heard many stories about this seemingly inconsequential plot of land you call home. That it harbored one of the greatest of diverse civilizations, marking a legendary alliance between humans and dwarves based on the constitutional values of trade, freedom and the safeguarding of prosperity. Of the mythical mines in the mountains just to the east, where a magical forge was built to honor Dumathoin and Oghma's Pact of knowledge and steel. Tricky Pete, the town's local bard, sometimes even tells tales pointing to the origin of all magical weapons and armor coming from this elusive forge, but you know that can only be exaggerated buffoonery designed to extort you for a couple silver more. Despite the tales of wonder, life, as it stands, has been better. Local Orc raids have seen an all-time high and, as a result, convoys from Neverwinter and Baldur's Gate are stifled, now reluctant to make the pilgrimage to peddle their goods to the local area. Farmers in the lands beyond have retreated from their homesteads, seeking refuge from the monstrosities of the Neverwinter Wood, with tales of shrieking ghosts and strange boars that morph into vague humanoid shapes wielding nature's wrath in their hands. The few travelers who brave the journey to your village tell entire swathes of the Trail being covered in white viscera that glows against the shapeshade of the eight legged terrors of the shadows. Worst of all, at night, sometimes, you can actually feel the change of the wind as it turns on your senses with what can only be described as an inevitable chill, waiting to swallow you whole in its icy embrace. The town has summoned you after a democratic vote. With trade grinding to a halt and troubles within the town itself rising at the hands of a local gang, you are to travel north, to meet with a Dwarven ambassador and friend of yours, Gundren Rockseeker. You set out, but when you arrive... Looking forward to playing with y'all!

About me

Howdys and Salutations! I've been playing D&D since the death throes of 3.5, skipped 4th entirely after a break and settled right nicely in the DM chair for 5e ever since Tyranny of Dragons dropped. I've ran and finished multiple online and in-person campaigns, often ending around tier 3 play (level 14). To get a good picture of what my games look like, imagine fun as a core concept — that's me! All I do is in the name of the collective fun for the whole table. I view TTRPGS in essence as an exercise to break out from constrained systems to do ridiculous stuff like, oh, I dunno, befriending the green dragon in Thundertree through carefully and tactfully putting the cursed helm of opposite alignment on it — he became a real softie after that! One rule I always abide by - mistakes, of any kind, are an opportunity to be creative and to do something fun and often hilarious. You regret your frail level 1 PC ran confidently into a pack of goblins, rolling poorly on that persuasion check? No problem. This does not mean death. Well, not necessarily anyway. It might, but it might also be another opportunity to pitch them that lucrative moonshine business you've been going on and on about lately. I wouldn't blame you, it's a neat idea. Anyways, happy to share the wonders of RPGs with you and create lasting memories that'll hopefully be sung about for years to come. Toodly-Doodly! (It's 'see you soon' in goblin, I promise.)

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will happen on Foundry VTT during session 0. We will set out character templates and define your inter-personal relationships as they tie into your backstory, as you are assumed to have lived next to each other since childhood. There will be loads of opportunities to explore the drama of that, and as we're breaking ice, I'll be painstakingly hand crafting each character sheet for you to make sure we miss nothing of your concept. Then, on a 1-to-1 bases before Session 1, I'll take the time to catch with all of you to review everything and make any last minute changes.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A good microphone and good connection to the internet are somewhat of a must, but I do not shun anyone from playing in my games because of technological limitations. I do encourage everybody to use webcams as well, as it makes the game more personable and more fun to everyone involved in my experience.

What Tomas B brings to the table

I will bring my expertise with Foundry VTT and, with it, lots of customizable options to tailor to the collective gaming experience. I also, as a treat, design custom character tokens for my players on Photoshop to suit their needs! :)

Safety

How Tomas B creates a safe table

We start at Level 1 and the goal is to be as accommodating as possible to any level of experience. I want everything from your character creation, backstories and potential first combat interactions to be as fluid as possible! Expect level 2 at the end of the first session, and level 3 soon after. The start of the adventure is rough and, as such, it has to be fairly rewarding for our newly green recruits, fresh off the Adventurer's League. The game, as a traditional D&D adventure, provides equal opportunities for Exploration, Roleplay and Combat. Some parts of the module are Combat heavy, but I am always open to resolving conflicts through Roleplay. You are rewarded for resolving encounters, not necessarily killing everything evil you see - although that IS always an option.
