About the adventure

The Witchlight Carnival has returned. Once every eight years, its music drifts across the world—bright lights, impossible wonders, and promises of magic that feels just a little too real. For some, it’s a night of joy. For others, it’s the start of something far stranger. Because hidden somewhere within the carnival is a path to another realm… one where time falters, beauty hides decay, and not everything is as it seems. Beyond the veil lies Prismeer—a fractured Fey domain of shifting moods, twisted bargains, and unsettling truths. Here, words carry weight, names have power, and violence is rarely the cleanest solution. You’ll navigate strange courts, make dangerous deals, and uncover secrets that blur the line between wonder and horror. This campaign blends whimsical fantasy with creeping darkness. Expect a strong focus on roleplay, exploration, and meaningful choices, where clever thinking can triumph over combat—but every path has consequences. The tone moves between playful, eerie, and emotionally charged, with moments of levity sitting beside deeper, more unsettling themes. Perfect for players who enjoy immersive storytelling, character-driven decisions, and a world that reacts to them. Whether you're new to D&D or a seasoned adventurer, this is a journey where curiosity is rewarded… but not always safely.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character Creation Characters can be created during Session 0, which is the preferred time, since it gives everyone a chance to build together, tie characters into the setting, and make sure the party starts with a strong group dynamic. If you’d rather make your character beforehand, that’s completely fine too. In that case, please build your character at level 3. Allowed Material Use official material only for character creation. If you want to use any third-party content or homebrew, that must be approved by me first before you bring it to the table. Stats We’ll be using a Heroic Array system. Here’s how it works: Everyone rolls for stats. Once all rolls are done, the highest full set rolled by the group becomes the array that everyone can use. Think of it like a shared, boosted version of the standard array. This keeps things fair across the party while still giving us the excitement of rolling. Starting Level All characters begin at level 3. This gives everyone a subclass, a bit more survivability, and enough room for your character concept to feel established from the start.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Before the game begins, you’ll just need a character concept in mind—no full sheet required right away (I’m happy to help you build or refine your character). Once you join the game, I’ll provide all necessary links, including: Discord (for communication and session coordination) Foundry VTT (hosted via The Forge) for gameplay Google Meet for voice/video (if used) No prior setup is needed beyond a stable internet connection. New players are absolutely welcome, and I’m happy to guide you through everything step-by-step.

What Pacts & Polyhedrals - Asmo brings to the table

I run immersive, story-driven games where your choices genuinely shape the world. Expect a rich blend of roleplay, exploration, and meaningful consequences, with a tone that shifts between whimsical Fey wonder and darker, unsettling undertones. Roleplay & Immersion I use character voices, expressive NPCs, and reactive storytelling to bring the world to life. Your character’s backstory, personality, and decisions will matter and be woven into the narrative. Atmosphere & Presentation Ambient music, soundscapes, and curated visuals through Foundry help create a cinematic experience—whether you’re wandering a dreamlike carnival or stepping into something far more eerie. Playstyle & Rules I balance Rule of Cool with solid mechanics. Clever ideas, creative problem-solving, and social play are heavily rewarded. Combat is meaningful and sometimes dangerous, but rarely the only solution. Player Agency & Consequences This is a game where choices matter. Deals, promises, and actions can echo across the campaign. There are often multiple ways to approach a situation—some safer than others. Support for All Players New players are very welcome. I’ll help with character creation, rules, and learning the game. Experienced players will find depth, challenge, and opportunities for creative play.

Homebrew rules

To keep the game fast, cinematic, and engaging, I use a few house rules: ⚔️ Combat & Criticals Powerful Criticals: Critical hits deal maximum damage instead of rolling. Critical Failures: On a natural 1, something goes wrong—this might mean dropping your weapon, hitting yourself, or causing unintended harm (situational). 🧪 Potions & Healing Potion Use: Drinking a potion yourself = Bonus Action Feeding a potion to an ally = Action Max Healing: Potions always heal the maximum amount (no rolling). Potion Toxicity: Taking more than one potion within an hour triggers a toxicity roll with potential side effects. 🎭 Roleplay & Inspiration Stacking Inspiration: Inspiration can stack beyond one use. Earned Through Roleplay: You’re more likely to gain inspiration by committing to your character—even when it leads to bad outcomes. Play your flaws, not just your strengths. 🧠 Combat Flow & Skill Use You can often make basic skill checks (Perception, Insight, etc.) as free actions in combat. However, multitasking comes at a cost—these checks may be made with disadvantage or other penalties at the DM’s discretion. 💀 Death & Tension Blind Death Saves: Death saving throws are rolled in secret. The party won’t know how close someone is to death, increasing tension in critical moments.

Safety

How Pacts & Polyhedrals - Asmo creates a safe table

Player Safety & Comfort Player comfort is a top priority at my table, especially given the mix of whimsical and darker themes in this campaign. Session 0 We begin with a comprehensive Session 0, where we’ll discuss tone, boundaries, character concepts, and expectations. This is where we establish what everyone is comfortable with and ensure the game is enjoyable for all. Open Door Policy You are always free to step away at any time, for any reason—no questions asked. Your well-being comes first. Stars & Wishes At the end of sessions, we’ll use Stars & Wishes to check in—highlighting what you enjoyed and what you’d like to see more (or less) of. This helps me continuously tailor the experience to the group. Ongoing Communication If anything ever feels off, you can message me privately at any time. I aim to create a table where players feel heard, respected, and safe to fully engage with the story.
