About the adventure

The Doomsday Ship is a narrative driven adventure in a spacefaring society populated solely by humans, who were attempting to explore the Milky Way Galaxy. However, after an interaction with an unknown substance, the exploration ship, Nova-9, was transported to somewhere unknown in the universe. Upon being suddenly transported, navigation was destroyed and even the ship's artificial intelligence cannot surmise exactly where Nova-9 and its crew are now. Players will take over roles aboard the 120-population ship as they deal with the sudden realization that they are going to die in an unknown galaxy with no way of any other human knowing their fate. The crew must make constant repairs and stop on planets for resources, like a moon to harvest detected metals to make repairs and tools or a bio-planet to turn biological material into fuel. The hope is that as the ship travels through the void, they can eventually figure out the orientation of the universe, and thus, find a direction towards the Milky Way. However, this will require maintaining the ship and its crew, who will struggle with mental illness and injury on their journey. The main focus will fall on exploration and resource management, but also dealing with combative organisms and politics, as mutinies and betrayals can occur when crew are unhappy! Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be made in GURPS Character Sheet (GCS) a free program with a large database of character-building assets. The characters are made with 150 Character Points, -40 Disadvantage Limit. Each player will get a chance to consult with the other players in the Discord server, but ultimately will end up making the character with the GM, before their debut on Session 1.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Have a Discord & Forge Account, as Discord is used for all communication and The Forge is used to host the Foundry VTT game. Both accounts are free to make and maintain. Players should also read GURPS 4th Edition Basic Set, Chapters 1 - 4 to learn how to make an average character. Additional reading ideas will be provided during the character-making process as well as during the Session 0.

What John brings to the table

Foundry VTT, which is free to players, a library of GURPS 4e books that will be available to players, and custom art assets & maps, some powered by AI. Ambient music will be used to set the tone and mood of a location or scene. The game will involve heavy Roleplay, Exploration, and Resource Management, with little focus on Combat. A mix of Social Engineering & Puzzles will occur regularly to challenge players in different ways.

How John creates a safe table

The GM and players will have a Session 0 where they discuss content they don't want to see, and how to go forward so everyone is happy. Players can also discuss breaks, as needed, for longer sessions.
