About the adventure

In the Legend of Monkey Island, the Caribbean is a place of stories. Every port has them. Every pirate swears they once sailed beside a legend, fought a sea monster, or discovered treasure that vanished before they could spend it. Most of these stories grow larger with every telling. Some become myths. A few become warnings. And then there are the stories about LeChuck. Years ago, the dreaded pirate terrorised the seas before being defeated by the unlikely hero Guybrush Threepwood. The tale became famous across the islands. Tavern bards still sing about the battles, the curses, and the strange voodoo magic that surrounded the pirate captain’s repeated downfalls. Time passed. The seas calmed. Trade returned to normal. The old stories faded into comfortable legend. Rumours travel fast between islands carried by sailors, traders, and wandering pirates. Some claim to have seen strange lights at sea. Others speak of ships that vanished along familiar trade routes. A few whisper about ancient ruins where old voodoo magic has begun to stir again. No two stories agree on the details, but they all agree on one thing; something is happening across the Caribbean. Guybrush Threepwood now lives a quieter life as the retired governor of Melee Island, though quiet is rarely a permanent condition for someone with his history. His son Boybrush Threepwood, who strongly prefers to be called James, grew up hearing tales of daring escapes, buried treasure, and unlikely victories over impossible odds. Unsurprisingly, he has decided that piracy sounds like an excellent career path. James is convinced the seas are on the edge of a new adventure. He might not be wrong. Across the islands, old ruins have begun to attract curious explorers. Voodoo and Dark magic hums in places long thought dormant. Pirate captains gather crews with unusual urgency. Something beneath the surface of the Caribbean is moving. A World of Pirates and Puzzles This campaign draws inspiration from the classic Monkey Island adventures: • The Secret of Monkey Island • LeChuck’s Revenge • The Curse of Monkey Island • Escape from Monkey Island • Return to Monkey Island Players will explore the famous islands of the series, including Melee Island, Scabb Island, Booty Island, Phatt Island, Blood Island, Dinky Island, and the legendary Monkey Island itself. Each island offers its own strange mysteries, colourful characters, and dangerous opportunities. Some hide lost treasure. Some hide ancient secrets. A few hide things that probably should have stayed buried. The world blends classic pirate adventure with voodoo magic, supernatural curses, and the strange humour that the Monkey Island stories are known for.

About me

Hi, my name is Kan, and I love writing, reading and playing fantasy games. I have over ten years of experience playing roleplaying games and have been an active member in the D&D community for five years now. I study Creative Writing and English Literature at the University of Leeds in the UK and I'm the president of the DiceSoc (TTRPG Society) where we run weekly games for our members to enjoy. I consider myself very patient, flexible and accommodating to both new and experienced players, and love teaching the world of D&D. Aside from being a DM, I am a lover of writing and poetry, which I include in games as my way to freshen up puzzles and lore.

Homebrew rules

Character creation and house rules are detailed in the discord server, but here are some: Crunchy Crits Natural 20s should feel deadly, both in the players favor and mine (muahaha). Therefore I utilise Crunchy Crits. - Roll your damage dice for your attack plus your modifiers. - Now take the total possible damage you could have dealt with those dice, and add it to the total damage. These are not considered dice rolled. For example A fighter with 20 strength using a +1 longsword wielded in two hands will Roll 1d10+6+10 dealing a minimum of 17 points of damage, and a maximum of 26 - A Crunchy Crit includes ALL damage dice that are added to a singular attack, so this includes a Smite, Aura buffs and concentration additions like Hex or Hunters Mark. - Spells that specify additional effects when you roll the maximum on a damage die (such as the 2024 Chromatic orb bouncing to a new creature) do not trigger from the additional damage from a critical hit. - Rolling 3 crits in a row sends you to jail. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. You remain in jail for a number of rounds until you roll a nat one on a d20 test. A friend can pay a 50 GP fine to have you released. Whilst in jail, any further natural 20 is considered a natural 1. (This is a joke rule that players can decide to include)
