About the adventure
Pack your warmest and heartiest wool socks and sharpen your favorite blade; you’re heading through the Buckwild, one of many regions fraught with adventure in Eastern Farraway. A realm where the air is crisp and cool, holds the subtle scent of pine, and where the weight of history is as heavy as the winter snows. Farraway was once the heart of a grand empire, the First Winter War shattered that unity. The war left behind a collection of rugged, independent territories. Adventure in Eastern Farraway isn't just about gold; it's about survival and uncovering the secrets of a broken world. Each settlement from the smallest village to the grandest city isn't just a place on a map; it’s a living saga. The geography here is as beautiful as it is brutal. Imagine a land where the mountains don’t just touch the sky, they pierce it, and the forests are so old they remember names of the gods who have long been forgotten. This landscape of craggy mountains, stony hills, and deep forests teeming with wildlife is savage, intriguing, beautiful, and home to many a winding path where a journey will begin. Eastern Farraway, where the wind bites, the ale is warm, and every shadow in the woods might just be a troll waiting for a snack.

About me
I've been enjoying role-playing games for over 30 years. I started my love of RPGs with the red box basic D&D set that was released in the 80's; I still have the dice. I played a fighter hired by royalty to explore and cleanse a dungeon. This whole scenario was created by my brother. I became hooked however I didn't get to play D&D again until several years later. A friend invited me to join his Ravenloft campaign, I leaped at the opportunity. Over the years that gaming group lost and gained people. We have played different systems as well, from AD&D 2nd. to Rifts, to World of Darkness and D&D 3rd/3.5 and a few indie games as well. I've played D&D from that Basic Red Box set then AD&D 2nd ed. all the way through to 2014 5th ed. Yes, I even played 4th. My first experience truly Dming was when I ran a homebrew campaign set in the Forgotten Realms under the 3.5 rules. Currently I play 2014 5th edition D&D, Pathfinder 1e, and Starfinder 1e. I have run campaigns for all three systems. These three d20 based games are the ones that I have the most familiarity with and feel very comfortable teaching to others. The games/campaigns I have DMed are exclusively online using Roll20 with players across the country in every US time zone. The best part about DMing is creating stories and memories with others. A little bit more about me is that I am a proud father and husband. I love spending time with my family. I have recently gotten into board gaming. My preference of board games coincides with my RPG hobby as most of the board games I own are big box story driven role-playing games such as ISS Vanguard, Harakiri: Blades of Honor, and Nova Aetas to name a few. I enjoy spending time with my family. Occasionally I play a video game or two, mostly RPGs, shocker! In my free time, when I have it, I enjoy painting miniatures for my board games. But mostly I love playing D&D. I really enjoy creating a story with others and seeing where it goes. I love it when a player has an "out-of-the-box" idea and I tend to bend the rules a little to make it work. Grab your dice, have a seat at the table and let's have some fun!

Creating your character
Players will begin at level one. Session zero will consist of game discussion, basics and expectations as well as character creation. A campaign page will be opened for you on DNDBeyond. Character creation will be done during session zero and use DNDBeyond. Players will roll for stats. Rolling method: 4d6 drop lowest result five times, 5d6 once using highest three for final score. Use remaining lowest two dice rolled and assign each one to one ability score.

What Cody brings to the table
What do I bring to the table? A fair and balanced game. No one PC is the hero. Everyone is the hero. The spotlight is shared. Work together and you will all be just fine. My main goal is to build a story and shape a world with you, full of memorable moments. Do you think outside the box? Great! Have an insane idea? Go for it! I follow rule of cool and will assign whatever checks I deem appropriate for whatever it is you want to try and do. You are the character you want to play. Are you new to RPGs? I would relish at the opportunity to teach you the basics as well as provide hints and tips so that you gain confidence in your playing. I do poor impressions, decent impressions and some sound effects. I am learning to incorporate ambient music and more sound effects at the table. My combat varies from cannon fodder encounters to lull you into thinking you are all powerful to intense near TPKs to make you "Run Away! Run Away!" so in the future you will check yourselves before you wreck yourselves. This game is your story. I am simply your guide. Grab your dice and let's have some fun.
Homebrew rules
Homebrew rules: No PvP or disruptive play. We're all adults after all. RPGs are not "winnable." If you are here to "win" at this game perhaps my table is not for you. I prefer to have players "roll" for ability scores. Potion drinking is a bonus action, potion feeding is a standard action. Critical Hits will use the "Perkins rule": Max damage for your weapon plus an additional die roll. (Example: Longsword does 1d8 damage normally. On a critical hit it will do 8+bonuses+1d8 damage) Death Saves: Secret Roll between player and DM (that way other players don't know how close you are to death) Keep in mind the actions you can take on your turn... Bringing a PC back to life will be a ritual performed by three players who all contribute through various ability checks. (Mercer's Rule) Only two players are allowed to do the same skill check in the same circumstance, unless called to perform a group check. The guidance spell must be announced and cast before any skill check is performed. The help action can either grant advantage or a bonus equal to the helping players total bonus. (Example: Two players want to investigate a book shelf to look for clues, player one offers to perform the help action and has a +5 total bonus on their investigate skill, player two can either roll with advantage or add five to their ability check roll, player must announce choice before rolling) Other homebrew rules can be added as needed.

How Cody creates a safe table
During session zero the Luxton Technique Discussion will take place so that any red flags or triggers can be discussed. X, N, and O cards can be done digitally through the VTT either in general chat or whispered message to DM. Additionally, displaying X above head on webcam can be used. An open door policy will be put in place so that any player that needs to step away from the table for any reason may do so. A break at roughly the midpoint through session time will also be provided. Lastly, we will wrap up the session with a debriefing to discuss the session/game, character's feelings, player's feelings as well as any additional content that needs to be discussed.
