About the adventure
A storm forces your group to seek shelter in an old, seemingly abandoned house. The windows flicker with faint light. The timbers creak and groan. The deeper you go, the more the house feels aware of your presence. What seemed like a refuge quickly becomes something else entirely. Leaving may not be as simple as opening the front door. The walls shift. The shadows listen. And the whispers know your name. I’ve run this one-shot for the last 25 years, and it remains one of my most popular and most requested games. It’s designed to draw you in, keep you guessing, and offer something new with every group that plays. This session is perfect for players who enjoy a blend of suspense, exploration, and survival. You’ll search for answers, face unsettling choices, and uncover secrets that shape your story. No two groups leave the house the same way—if they leave at all.

About me
I’ve been a Dungeon Master since the mid-90s, when I first discovered my love for tabletop role-playing games. What began as a hobby quickly became a lifelong passion, and I’ve been the “forever DM” for countless campaigns ever since. My games are built on immersive roleplay, where players have the freedom to develop their characters and shape the world around them. Every action has consequences—both good and bad—allowing players to see the tangible effects of their decisions within the game. My campaigns are known for their longevity, with some spanning years. My current in-person group has been meeting weekly for over 8 years, a testament to the engaging and personalized storytelling I strive to provide. I also take great joy in welcoming new players to the hobby, patiently teaching them the mechanics and creativity of role-playing. I run my games via Zoom, blending the flexibility of online play with my old-school, in-person DM experience. By reading player cues and adapting to their needs, I ensure everyone is engaged and their story expectations are met. My focus is on crafting a collaborative narrative where your character’s journey takes center stage.

Creating your character
Characters for House of Lament can be created using D&D Beyond. Players will begin at 4th level. For stats, roll 4d6, reroll ones, and keep the highest three dice for each ability score. Magic items are not included in this game. Any standard published D&D 5e source is allowed for class and subclass choices. Be ready to start the adventure with your completed character so we can fully immerse ourselves in the game!

Preparing for the session
You’ll need an updated Zoom account, a webcam, and a mic to join House of Lament. Have your character sheet ready, along with dice, physical or digital. Most importantly, bring your imagination and a readiness to dive into the mystery! If you’d like, feel free to use a Zoom background that reflects your character’s personality or story. While not required, it’s a fun way to enhance the roleplay experience! No prior reading or rule prep is necessary—just show up with your character and be ready for an unforgettable adventure.
What Angel of Terror - Scotty brings to the table
As your Dungeon Master, I provide everything you need for an engaging and atmospheric game. Characters are managed seamlessly through D&D Beyond, and we play via Zoom, utilizing Theater of the Mind to bring the story to life. For House of Lament, I enhance the experience with maps using D&D Beyond. This is an atmosphere-driven game where the house itself is the main antagonist. With no NPCs, the players drive the story as they uncover mysteries or focus purely on survival. I stick to the rules but encourage creativity and inventive solutions, fostering a collaborative and dynamic game. My goal is to ensure everyone enjoys roleplaying, feels connected to the story, and has fun navigating the challenges the house presents.
